Default Is It Fair To Ban Someone Without Giving Them A Warning?

I have been banned from two websites recently. The first one is a semi-ban, and I will be allowed back on November 11th. The second ban is permeneant. . The first ban happened because I startred a thread called, "Celebrities Who Have Not Aged Well?", thinking it was going to be a huge hit with lots of replies talking about different celebrities who have not aged well. It got three replies, all talking about how big of an insensitive jerk I was to start that topic. Not the huge hit I was looking for. I got a message saying I was semi- banned for disturbing the peace. I didn't get a warning before I was banned and I think it's unfair.

The second website I got banned for was for posting about how gross it was that a 26 year old man mutually consentually fuced his biological Grandmother and how they were dating each other and said they were soulmates. Eew. . I thought this topic was going to have many replies, but, it too was also quickly deleted, and I got a message saying I was banned because of User Complaints. This website also did not give me a warning, which is unfair.

I personally see nothing wrong with the first topic and if the Administrator of that site would ban anyone for something as petty as that then you're better off staying away.

The second topic is a different matter entirely, I don't think you should've been banned without a warning but the topic was in very poor taste.

Cool

I think there should be a progression of discipline. Perhaps a warning for a first offense. A temporary ban (i.e. two weeks) for a second offense. An outright and permanent ban should only be a last resort if all other forms of discipline haven't resolved the issue.

Were you ever warned by either site for another thread/post of yours?

Zoneboy, I actually can see why the second topic was deleted,as it can disturb and disgust may people, and worse, is a forum miostly for teenagers, but I honestly don't think I should have been banned without a warning for that. A simple deleting of the thread and a warning not to post anymore topics like that would have been sufficient, since I usually don't post disturbing posts like that.

The first topic most likely should NOT have gotten me semi-banned, but maybe just closed if they were that against it. The thing that confuses me is that the majority of the posters are grown adults, so it's really confusing that they would semi-ban me for talking about celebrities who have not aged well.

No, not for that. I was warned for something else entirely. I got a warning from a moderator to stop putting "music threads" in the "General Forum" threads, but this ban was nothing like that warning....

It depends. In your case, I think warnings should have been given. There are offenses where warnings are not in order. An example would be if a member goes off on another member in a crazy personal attack; or if someone calls a Mod or an Admin terrible names. On many sites, members would get banned for those last offenses., but Sitcoms believes in second chances.

The other Janice, I am grateful that this place, Sitcoms Onine, gives second chances. I remembered when I was multiple personalities on here and wrote a sex story.... I love that I wasn't banned, just sternly warned to get rid of my MP's and not to make anymore sex stories. I am grateful and thankful.

Oh No

JJ...

As a person getting banned on sites...I have a few.

Retrojunk.com-I got a Temp Ban because I called myself a name (I have VERY Low Self-Esteem). Luckily they gave me an appeasement so I'm back!
adultswim.com (Message Board)-I got banned because I talked about a shock site (I was only asking "Why the hell would you have a site like that")?
wtammessageboards.com-I flamed at someone because the person hated the way I was ranting on Cleveland, but like the city...I'm hurting!

Probably depends on what kind of site it is, and who typically uses it.

For the aging thread, I don't see how that would be a problem on most sites. That sounds a bit harsh to be banned (even temporarily) for something like that.

Re: The second thread, if I were a moderator, I'd probably delete the thread and issue a private warning of some kind that stuff like that is in poor taste. Again, depends on the overall content of the site and what constitutes typical discussion threads.

But if one can discuss celebrities who HAVE aged well, there's no reason why we can't discuss celebrities who have NOT aged well. After all, it's not private citizens who are being discussed, it's celebrities.

Besides, any celebrity already knows whether he or she has aged well or not. They don't need anonymous posts on a web site to tell them

SO really is a nice site. Thanks for being instrumental in making it so. Its the only site I post on - although maybe one day I'll venture onto the Weight Watchers Bd.

I guess I don't get the point of a "celebrities who haven't aged well"? Thread. Seems pointless and I agree very insensitive and serves no purpose but to stir up trouble as in people will start bashing actors for their looks which I don't like at all

The second didn't seem to bad, but it might not have fit with the kinds of threads on their board

Whatever hapened to "If you don't like what I'm doing/posting/watching/etc. either move along or move away"; "If you dont like how I live go someplace else". Nowadays it's all about "I have every much right to be here as you; if you offend me then I'll complain and try and get you out". That's called ENTITLEMENT and that's WRONG.

Someday I will create my own message board forum. No rules - post whatever topic you want, post whatever comments you want. If someone gets offended, too bad so sad - they can go to another website. I'm just fed up with all this "image" stuff and "PC" stuff on the Web!

You should not have been banned (or semi-banned) for EITHER thread.
