What was the deal with her? Did they ever explain why Marilyn was normal looking and the rest of the family were all monsters?

They never did say I dont think. To the rest of the world Marilyn was the norman one.

According to the book "The Munsters: A Trip Down Mockingbird Lane" by Steve Cox, Marilyn is the daughter of Lily Munster's sister. Lily and her father (Grandpa) are vampires so I think we can assume Lily's sister is also a vampire. This means Marilyn must be at least 50% vampire (since we don't know who her father is) yet you would never know by her physical appearance!
