'Better With You' Gets Full Season Pickup - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

ABC today became the latest broadcast network to make its full-season pickups, handing out back-nine orders to freshman comedy Better With You and drama No Ordinary Family. Additionally, the network has picked up 5 additional episodes from freshman cop drama Detroit 1-8-7 and 4 from veteran family drama Brothers & Sisters. Missing from the list is new legal drama The Whole Truth, which already has been on shaky ground and is preempted again next week. The series will stay on the air but the network doesn't plan to order more episodes beyond the original 13-episode order. The episodic orders follow the pickup of 4 additional scripts each for No Ordinary Family and Brothers & Sisters 2 weeks ago. It brings the order for Brothers & Sisters to a full-season 22 episodes, up from the 18 ordered in May, meaning that ABC is probably considering a change in its launch plans for midseason drama Off the Map, which was to premiere in Brothers & Sisters Sunday 10 PM slot. (Off the Map also recently received an order for an additional script.)

...ABC's Wednesday night sitcom lineup {"Laugh On"} is more successful than last season- when they had to practically create it from "scratch"- is the fact that "BETTER WITH YOU" is doing better with "THE MIDDLE" than Kelsey Grammer's "HANK" did during the 8-9pm(et) hour last season...which also means there won't be any reason this season to schedule a "Peanuts" encore special at 8pm(et) on Wednesdays; now, they're being used to "plug" the 8pm hole on Fridays (as witness the "double bill" of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown" [the latter slightly edited] this coming Friday evening, the 29th) until "SECRET MILLIONAIRE" returns {yes, but for how long???}.

There is no "hole" on Friday at 8pm. Supernanny returns Nov. 5. Secret Millionaire is going to air Sundays at 8 starting in March.

And good for Better With You. Hope it gets better. So far of the episodes that have aired I have only liked 2 (the pilot and the yelling one). It needs more time, and I'm glad ABC is giving it time. Most multicamera sitcoms start off slow.

....I understood "SUPERNANNY" wasn't supposed to return until mid-season, and "SECRET MILLIONAIRE" was supposed to be on Fridays at 8pm(et). The last few weeks, though, repeats of "NO ORDINARY FAMILY" have filled that hour, followed by repeats of "MODERN FAMILY" and "THE MIDDLE" (now, all of a sudden, "PRIMETIME: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?" is filling that hour!). If that isn't a "hole", what is it?

They were just encores the first few weeks of the season. ABC has done that on Fridays to start the season the past few seasons. Secret Millionaire/Body of Proof were originally going to start Oct. 22, but ABC decided to give them better nights and better launch (rightfully so, they are good).

ABC Fridays is Supernanny, Primetime: What Would You Do, 20/20

All are solid in the ratings for a Friday, especially WWYD. ABC doesn't have a hole on Fridays. It's Wednesdays at 10 and Thursdays at 8 that is the problem, but help is on the way in those two slots.
