Folks, I have only started watching Gomer Pyle recently on Youtube, and I LIKE Sgt. Carter. He does not abuse his men (Try the sergeant in "Full Metal Jacket"). He tries to be fair, and getting Gomer Pyle through boot camp took a lot of talent.

He actually threatens to fight a bigger, more muscular sergeant who threatens Gomer in one episode. He yells a lot but he's a Marine sergeant, for Pete's sake.

He starts the series as a Korean war hero with sixteen years of distinguished service to his country.

Okay, he's only slightly more intelligent that Gomer, but nobody's perfect.
