Thumbs down Mel Gibson's Comeback Hits Another Wall! Cast Fires Him From 'The Hangover 2!'

Mel Gibson won't be appearing in The Hangover Part II despite web reports he'd play a tattoo artist in the Todd Phillips-directed pic. Warner Bros and its financing partner Legendary Pictures released a statement from Phillips. "I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew," Phillips said.

I think the world of Phillips, but I didn't find it admirable when WME dropped Gibson as a client, and I think this development is disappointing. Mike Tyson, who was convicted or rape and served time for it, can be in The Hangover, but Gibson can't, because he made an anti-Semitic remark during a DUI arrest and had some scary voice mails bared against his wishes? Stars still flock to work with Roman Polanski, even though he can't make movies in the U.S. because he fled after admittedly having a sexual encounter with a 13-year old girl. Clearly, Gibson has been his own worst enemy, but as a director of films like Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto, there are few better.

I agree that there is a double standard in the business. A rapist like Roman Polanski can keep successfully working while others get blacklisted. Winona Ryder, someone with a ton of talent, gets shut out for years because of shoplifting. Yes, it was obviously a horrible thing to do but not compared to what some others have done.

I agree 100%, I mean Mel Gibson isn't a saint by any stretch of the imagination, but if like you said, Polanski can still get work, why not Gibson???

Also in the article, the cast didn't have a problem with Mike Tyson another convicted rapist appearing in the 1st Hangover movie.

Why anyone would want to work with Mike Tyson is beyond me. You guys are both right.

The interesting thing about the Polanski situation is that the young girl, Samantha Gailey (now known as Samantha Geimer), believe it or not, is actually glad that he was not extradited last July.

Which leads me to this question: Do you think she's absolutely sick in the head for not wanting him extradited?

Oh No

Gibson's career is as lively as Michael Richards right now....

Exactly. At least we know Mel is someone with a lot of talent. I'm not sure what the casting director was thinking when they thought, "You know who would be great for this movie? Mike Tyson!"

I hope after some time, Mel can have a comeback. He did some really stupid things, but not nearly on the same level as others. And as I said, he is someone with a lot of talent and I hope he gets some roles so it's not wasted.

Movie Liam Neeson Replaces Mel Gibson for Hangover 2 Cameo

How do you cure a hangover? Call in the A–Team.

Liam Neeson is now doing a cameo in The Hangover 2 after Mel Gibson's appearance got canceled due to complaints by cast and crew. Neeson was invited by his A-Team costar Bradley Cooper, who's also in the Hangover sequel.

"I just got a call to do a one-day shoot on Hangover 2 as a tattooist in Thailand, and that's all I know about it," Neeson tells Daily Variety. "I just laughed my leg off when I saw The Hangover, I was shooting in Berlin earlier this year and rented it on the hotel TV."

Just the inherent craziness of the Mel Gibson situation would have lent a cameo by him much more memorable.
