Question is there anyone out there who still cant receive TV Land?

Went to my hometown yesterday and noticed on their cable they have added new channels like Game Show, VH-1 Classic, Country VH-1, Trio, even BBC America and ESPN Classic sports.

But STILL no TV Land!!!

I called the local office and ask them whats up and this is what I got..I am still scratching my head on this one !!

CABLE CO: " we will not be adding TV Land to our line-up because it is a waste of channel space. No reason for it. Sitcoms can be found on Nick@Nite and they air the same shows as TV Land. Not to mention on many many other channels we DO offer. We also heard that on weekends TV Land airs the same damn show 24 hours a day. Again that proves that TV Land is a waste of channel space".

When I corrected her and told her about Lucy, Beaver, Love Boat, ect.. airing only on TV Land and how Nick@Nite as lost its focus by airing shows like Cheers, Family Ties, and it will continue with Cosby and Roseanne. She asked me my age and this is what she said...

CABLE CO: " first of all there is NOTHING wrong with shows like Roseanne and Cosby Show. I think you are so weird as a 33 year old who would rather watch some Lucille Ball show than a shows like Friends, Will & Grace, and Suddenly Susan. Shows that are for and speak for the generation X. There are not too many people like you. I guess you are one of those "kids" who never grew up sitting back watching shows in B/W and playing with your toys. Channels like TV Land are for those poor souls who have no life and cant accept the real world of today so they escape to life in the 70s or even the 50s. To them I say give it up and move forward. Shows like Friends reflect whats going on and should be viewed by members of your generation".

Oh by the way...remember about me telling her that N@N airing Cosby Show and Roseanne wasnt a good thing? Well she got mad and said "How dare you putting down people who are overweight and those who are black".

She felt by putting down Roseanne and Bill Cosby is a "slap in the face" to all of those who are overweight and to those who are black.

No I have heard everything !!!

Guess the ONLY way to get TV Land in my hometown is to get a dish.

(i like roseanne)

What crawled up her butt and died?

She NEEDs to get a life. Exactly how does she KNOW they are supposed to air the same show every weekend? Maybe she snuck a peak one weekend and then another?

Is "Mannix", "Charlie's Angels", "Adam-12", "Emergency!", "I Love Lucy", etc on Nick at Nite?

And just because people don't like a certain thing doesn't mean their prejudiced. I hate "The Cosby Show" & "Cosby", but that's not because I'm racisist. I just don't find it funny. And people screaming at each other on "Roseanne" isn't my kind of entertainment.

And they can cancell all the shows and put on reruns on ABC, CBS, & NBC for all I care. She's a helpless soul, if all she can do is tell how bad a channel is.

And I don't know of many people who would rather watch some British dudes talking about phosperous on the National Geographic Channel then a crazy redhead and a boat where you find looooove!

She knows where I think she's going to

I think I can smell her......she smells like a skunk farted in a hobo's mouth!!!!!!

I think 'Friends' and all the other CRAP (with exception to Malcom,Simpsons,My Wife and Kids,Bernie Mac and others) are just what they are.I hate the way they call them Generation X shows!!!!
They are all Carbon Copies of each other!!!!
And I like TVLand because I'm interested!!!!!!!!
I'd rather watch a daffy redhead and her bandleader husband,a cooky cast of characters in a police precint, two loudmouths who live in New York,a group of wacky 'sailors' on a lovely boat,a family of oddities,a trashman with a musical brother,a 'family' of TV workers in Minneapolis and another 'family' of TV workers in Phoenix!!!

Now that is all I've ever heard of. I'm in a state of shock as I'm typing this. I'm so glad that I wasn't speaking to that woman, she probably would think I'm some kind of a weirdo just because I'm 17 and prefer Leave it to Beaver to the now shows. I'm not fond of The Cosby Show or Roseanne either, I'm not racist either. I just find old shows better than the now shows. I'm shaking my head right now.....

I'm sorry you were treated in such a unprofessional matter!!!.I don't know whether your local cable company is independant or or a franchise but regardless, you don't keep customers with a piss-poor manner this uh..."lady" treated you with!!!.I'd report this,in years of various cable co's I 've never been treated to such rudeness, everytime I've requested a channel I told to keep requesting &to get others to,but a dish is getting to be a much more better alternative to cable anyway,I would myself ,but i rent a aptartment &assumed it's not permitted luckily ,My co just went digital &it's packed with goodies.Wish you could give me your cable co's name &the name of the cable rep we would have a few word's btw Im Italian & have a few 'family members' who could rough her up.LOL,Seriously I'd report this to someone.good luck!

Wow, talk about rude! Geeze, you are the customer...

For starters, I would call the General Manager of the company and repeat what you posted here. Then, I would shut off my cable so fast their heads would spin. Thank goodness there are several other options nowadays other than our local cable dealers. Ours has mellowed a bit since their little monopoly has been taken from them!

I remember calling our local cable company about a station (Comedy Central I think), and when they were getting it. I was also laughed at. However, I had the last laugh. The day I was able to haul my black box in their building and drop it on the counter was a wonderful time for me....I love my dish!

I don't know about anyone else, but Friends does NOT represent my life, and I'm 22. I'd like to think I'm not a pathetic whiner.

Second, if I wanted to watch the world I live in, aka "the real world," I'd look out my window or watch the news. I like the old shows because:

1. They're funnier
2. The actors seem more talented
3. They had more creativity back then
4. It's a nice escape from the "real world"

And being only 22, I did not grow up with these shows so I'm not hung up on the past.

OH!! And how many new shows have used classic TV references in them lately???

Sheesh. I'd have that @#$^'s job. Then I'd buy a dish and suggest everyone I knew do the same.

Actually the cable system in my hometown is Adelphia. Adelphia has a rather huge complex ( business office and studio )just west of town and thats who I talked to. I didnt call their 800 number.

Adelphia DOES offer TV Land on all the systems it has in nearby towns but NOT in my hometown. But Tv Land isnt the only channel not offered, for many years they didnt offer neither Showtime or The Movie Channel becuase they felt HBO was enough.

What gets me about them (Adelphia ) is they brag how much better they are when compaired to dish. Ralking about local channels/local news though the closest "local" tv station there is 80 miles away. Needless to say both Dish Net. and Direct TV has a lot of customers there.

Someone here said something about not being able to have a dish because they rent. That depends on the landlord of the building not Direct Tv or Dish. Chances are most of them wont care because for the most part one hardly notices them.

Unless you work for Adelphia.

Wow! BB, you were certainly treated in one of the rudest most unprofessional manners I have seen in a long time by your cable company. You should call Adelphia's main office and speak to a manager about your situation with that represenitive. There is no reason in the world why they should not be able to add TV Land to your line-up. It is one of the best channels (despite the editing of shows crap) and blows Nick at Nite away. I can not understand why Adelphia would not carry TV Land in your area, especially if it is offered in other nearby areas. But please, talk to a manager about your situation because her behavior is inexcusable! Let us know what happens with this.

We have Time Warner Cable and are very happy with them. (They have an 80 channel line-up and for an additional $6.30/month you can upgrade to digital) I still have analog, but our 250 channel digital line-up has everything. I want Game Show Network, but to get it, you have to upgrade to digital service in my area. I bring this up because, if enough people request a channel be moved from digital to analog Time Warner will accomodate them. (They did this with Food Network and Golf Channel, so I am "petitioning" for Game Show Network to come to analog cable.

The point is you should call, write, and petition for the services you want! (First get this clown who treated you so bad) Cable is expensive as it is and you have the right to complain. Geez! This woman doesn't know her rear end from a hole in the ground! Good luck!

Obviously this woman didn't know what she was talking about. The cable company offered GSN which (at this time) is like the TV Land of Game Shows. They show one original on their schedule, but the rest are reruns of other old game shows.

Not that I'm knocking either channel...I spend 95% of my TV watching time on one of these two channels.

Great post and I can't agree more! Both channels in a way are "Classic TV" I love game shows and the ones I would watch especially if we ever get Game Show Network are Match Game (one of my favorites, Password, and Let's Make a Deal) Game Show Network used to have Price is Right which is my #1 show, but they must of lost the rights to it cause they don't show it anymore
