Tom Selleck is urging movie executives keen to adapt his hit TV series "Magnum P.I." into a film to tread carefully - because the show is too important to become another shoot-'em-up blockbuster.
The actor admits he keeps hearing about a film version of the hit 1980s show but he hasn't been asked to be a part of it. And he's reluctant to give any such project the thumbs up until he knows for sure it will honor the hit TV series and not mock it or his character. He tells TV Guide magazine, "My fear is, we see too many examples of studios buying the rights to a franchise, then spending $100 million on explosives and trivializing and making fun of it. "Magnum's in the Smithsonian (Museum), and for a very serious reason. It was the first show to portray Vietnam veterans in a positive light. I'm very proud of that." http://www.starpulse.com/news/index....bosses_to_trea |

I agree with him 100%.Many a times does the movie industry these days update ---AND tarnish---a well-remembered TV series by giving it a big screen adaptations.(Case in point:the horrible "The Beverly Hillbillies"movie).Give me the original TV series anytime.

...could personally see to it that the movie was as faithful to the original TV series (as he was) would be if he OWNED a piece of the series...which Tom doesn't. NBC/Universal owns the rights to it...and considering their recent TV remakes of "KNIGHT RIDER" and "THE BIONIC WOMAN", this movie {if it's ever produced} would be a bonafide disaster.

The only way that will happen is for Sellek himself to buy the rights to this film and run it himself.

I agree with Tom. I hope a Magnum, P.I. never gets made. I picture disappointment.
