Today is a sad day for fans of soul music. General Norman Johnson, who was the lead singer for “Chairmen of the Board” passed away yesterday at the young age of 67.

General Johnson seemed as though he knew how to sing the day he was born. He began singing in his church choir at the age of 6, and then recorded his debut album when he was only 12 years old.

The Chairmen of the Board was a band that was formed in 1967 and continued until 1976. Johnson was their front man, and song writer. They are known for a famous single “Give Me Just a Little More Time” which was released towards the end of 1969. It reached #3 on the Billboard hot 100 chart, and sold well over a million copies.

The music group was also known for other popular singles such as “Pay to the Piper”, “Everything’s Tuesday”, “Finders Keepers”, “Elmo James”, and “You’ve Got Me Dangling on a String”.

There is no official word on what the cause of death was, but long time Chairmen of the Board band member Ken Knox, will speak along with General Johnson’s son, Red tomorrow. They are scheduled to appear on a radio show at noon EST tomorrow.
