Default A New Beginning

The fact that it has been over a week since I have posted here is because I seem to have bleed dry whatever I can think of to say about this fine show! Writing about site traffic got old after a while and some of the other members even posted messages telling me that they were tired of it. And with no one else posting, there was really nothing to respond to. This reality holds true for a lot of the pages that I frequent. One page that is usually even slower than this one is that of "Mad About You". Now that is one series that I am truely "Mad" about! Because of all of this, I have been simply going through the list, seeing that there was nothing new and than watching something on "Youtube" or shutting off the computer and finding something else to do. Well, believe it or not, on this very evening, someone, out of the blue, posted a response to a thread that I had started once about on time! I was so happy! I have since responded to that response and told the poster how happy I was to see it! I wonder if anything like it will happen on this page any time soon!

There's really not much to say anymore about the show. It got it's full series release already. It's sad that it's not as remembered as other 80s shows because it was rarely shown in re-runs, and never got to air on Nick At Nite.

I think that's why this board is slow. Back in 1998, I believe, when these boards first came out, or there were other boards on yahoo, there were posts EVERY DAY.

It was because the show was currently on re-run on USA network from Sept 1997-Sept 1998. A whole year it was on re-runs. And that whole year there were a lot of posts. When this actual board came out, there were a lot of posts. Then it got slow and then when Nell passed away, it got flooded again, but then after a month or so, it died out again.

The only way this board could get flooded again is if say GAB is shown on Nick At Nite. Possibly will never happen. Or if GAB is shown on TNT, TBS, or any station that's cable and people get everywhere, not just one region of the USA.

I guarantee, the moment the show comes back on reruns on a basic cable channel, the boards will be flooded again. The show is on DVD, but not a lot of people know about it nor bought it I bet. What about the new generations who never heard of it? That's what I mean. I recalled the show in the mid and late 80s on reruns but I forgot what the show was about. I just recalled Samantha with the boyish hair-do from seasons 1-3, The Chief, Nell, her singing on Broadway, The Chief showing Joey the ice cream cone in "Katie's College", and Nell smashing the crab in "Nell's New Car" and Addy with the thermometer in her mouth in "Mama's Date". That's all I remembered from the series as a child.

I recalled the series being on rerun in 1987-1989ish on what is now the CW and back then in Boston was WLVI 56. Those are the only moments and things about the show I remembered. When I saw it on USA, I was shocked what parts of the series I remembered and how long it had been on the air and how far back it was made when I saw it in 1997 when I was 15 on USA.

But that's what I think will happen. The board is dead. Not many post here anymore. Only those who used to, or who bought the DVD will at times.

If the show gets re-ran on network TV, you can expect a whole new generation of boardies as there were on Diff'rent Strokes and Facts of Life boards when they each aired on Nick At Nite in 2000/2001, et. It will explode if the series ever airs on Nick At Nite. Other channels, it will get more posts for sure, but if it goes to NAN, then expect a lot of reviews by newbies who are teens who like it or don't like it.

You have raised a lot of good points in this response. You mentioned how flooded things had become when Nell Carter died. Well, things like that usually happened when a star of a show dies. You should see the "Happy Days" page! At this stage in the game, the actor who played Mr. Cunningham (Tom Bosley) has been dead for a about a week. On the day he died and for the next couple of days, the posts would come in like nobody's business! Now they are tapering off a little bit. I am sure that, if another actor or actress who was a regular on this series died, we would get a whole new bunch of posts by people offering their condolences. And also, I agree with what you said about what would happen if the reruns would come on a major cable network. Let us see if that ever happens!
