Of these boyfriends of Sally
Which did you like, and which did you NOT like ?1)Freddy whats-his -name in 1962's "Jilting the Jilter"-I didn't care for him. 2)Herman Glimpshire (the late William Idelson)who REALLY showed his stuff and his love for Sally in 1966's "Dear Sally Rogers"-I liked him a little, but he was something of a pest.3)Douglas Bedlore (the late Henry Gibson)in 1966's "Talk to the Snail"-he was okay.4)Bert Monker(Sid Melton)in 1964's "Romance,Roses and Rye Bread"-
he was pretty good.and 5)That obnoxious, smarmy insurance agent Mr.Evans(the late Milton Frome(I liked the ending when Sally brought him in to meet everyone and they all (Rob,Laura,Millie,Jerry,Buddy and Mel)ganged up on him in the mediocre 1965 episode"Who Stole My Watch"-I didn't care for HIM,either. |

I liked Arthur Stanwyck (played by Anthony Eisley), the lawyer, but his dark secret was a bit too much.

Was Freddy the one that used Sally so she would write jokes for his act?
Also, he called her "Mommy". Didn't like him at all...or any for that mayyer. Herman was OK but too tied to the apron strings. |

Could Stacy Petrie (Jerry Van Dyke) be considered one of her boyfriends? His scene in Sally's apartment was very memorable!

Out of all the guys Sally saw, it seems like Bert the delicatessen owner was the only one who *really* loved her... the rest either just used her (Freddy, the mortician guy) or seemed to have no feelings for her at all. It's just too bad that Sally didn't feel the same way.. I know it's realistic and would've totally changed her character, but it made the episode end on such a sad note.
Herman's kind of in the middle with me; I think he's hilarious, especially whenever Sally talks about her dates with him, but when you think about it, it's really sad that he's *all* Sally could stick with.. I mean, as a writer for one of the top shows in the country, you'd think more men would be after her. Maybe she wasn't a knock-out, but she was still (IMO) really pretty and had a great sense of humor.. maybe in that era, men thought women like her came off as too "strong" and not good date material? This is just my opinion, but ever since I started watching the show, I always felt that Buddy and Sally were perfect for each other... I mean, they were always able to keep each other "in line" and understood each other well.. it's too bad Buddy already had Pickles.
