It means this title will not be available in stores. It can only be ordered directly from Shout Factory. It also means there will be no special features and the cheapest possible packaging will be used.

I'll be interested in this, though I must say that it's past my favorite era of the series which had Edna Skinner and Larry Keating playing the Addisons. A shame though that it won't get better treatment.

Uh oh. Hope it won't affect the CCing and the future releases for the last 2 seasons. Those are what I'm worried about. Why would they do this in the first place?

Because they're idiots.

It's possible this show undersold at retail, so they transferred the series to their Shout Select program. While I like many fantasy sitcoms of the 60's, a talking horse is a little too much for me. Mister Ed does have some funny moments, but I don't plan on having the show in my DVD library.

As a Canadian I have the same problem. However I've found that Shout Select titles can be purchased at sites like E-Bay and Amazon. And even for a very reasonable price if your willing to take the time to shop around a little and check out several vendors.

So you would rather have the series completely abondoned?, I and several others on this board were instrumental in getting Brian Ward of Shout to start this exclusive site for niche series that simply don't sell well enough, do you know that companies have to pay for shelf space at stores such as best buy?

As for your "no special features and the cheapest possible packaging" quote, all of their releases have been top notch, with color silk screening on the discs (paramount gave that up long ago) and come in standard amaray cases just like all other dvd releases and season 4 does have a special feature about mr ed selling US savings bonds..and are completely UNEDITED!...and every title I have bought off the site has arrived before the street date as I got Mister Ed 4 early....and yes shout has supplied a special amazon seller whom is affliated with them for those who don't wish to buy off the site...... so why so bitter?

I'm not bitter. I'm just stating facts. The packaging for Shout Select titles is different than for titles released to stores. It was for Mr. Belvedere and Small Wonder and I'm sure it will be for Mr. Ed. And Shout Select titles don't have extra's like cast interviews, commentaries, cast commercials etc. I'd still rather have the show released this way than not at all. I guess I'm just frustrated that some shows get full series releases with all the bells and whistles (i.e. Leave it to Beaver) whereas other shows get quietly shuffled off to the Shout Select department. I would like them to treat all series with the same respect. I guess that's the fan in me talking!

I understand your point that if a series starts in a two slimline case with a cardboard wrap-around than changes half way through, they don't look the same on the shelf....but that is the fact that has happened to 90% of all series, look at season one of gomer pyle, happy days, etc and then towards the end. There is no difference to what paramount uses for their releases and shout select, most companies are giving up on slimline's and cardboard sleeves...and for the avid and passionate collector (in which it seems we both are) it is all about shelf space, so if I can have 4 dvd's in the same size case that a few years only one would be in, it is a welcome relief. As for beaver, it is all about the distributor, the first season was riddled with technical problems in the famous lunchbox, double sided discs and it took years for it to get a proper timely release. It is all a matter of taste but for a company like Shout & MPI (the leaders in classic tv in my humble opinion) we should be grateful.....who else would have released Small Wonder????

Some of us like to shop the old fashioned way: Going into a store and buying something. Not that I dont buy things online. Also a lot of stuff online you cant buy without a credit card, and I dont have one.

That was the point...Stores like Best Buy, Boarders & FYE, just about the only stores left because they sent their own customers to their websites while in the store when they "didn't carry" a particular title....I repeat Best Buy and similar refused to give their precious shelf space to smaller companies like shout to carry their product without paying....by the way this is the way standard retail works....when you are in your local grocery store, on the end of the aisle where you see 100 coke bottles, do you think that is out of the good gracious of the store?, no it is called "product placement" or "point of purchase".....the companies pay for that eye candy space, same for magazines.

Next time go into Best Buy and look for the FOX & HBO Series isles....so if Shout after manufacturing a niche series can't afford to manufacture the series and then pay for the shelf space....they created the online exclusives with a push from some members here at sitcoms....I also repeat from other posts....these online exclusives will DOUBLE OR TRIPLE in value over the years as collectors items because they were sold and manufactured in limited numbers.....try and buy any out of print series lately off amazon? Lost In Space, Doogie Howser? I really suggest if you like the series, support this endevor with more than "That Sucks"...not pointed at anyone in particular.
