Albertina Walker died this morning in her home of Chicago. Known to many as the 'Queen of Gospel,' she was 81 years old.

The legendary gospel singer formed the choir group the Caravans when she was just 22 years old. The Caravans launched the careers of such legendary performers as Inez Andrews, Shirley Caesar, Cassietta George, Dorothy Norwood and Delores Washington. Albertina Walker had been admitted into the intensive care unit of an area Chicago hospital and underwent a tracheostomy surgery. She battled respiratory problems for years, and spent the last few years of her life on a ventilator. Walker had been in the hospital since her 81st birthday on Aug. 29, and according to her publicist, passed away this morning at 4:30AM.

Albertina Walker was born and raised in Chicago since her birth in 1929. She will be remebered for a long list of songs including, 'Walk Around Heaven,' 'Lord Keep Me Day by Day,' and appropriately enough, 'Lord Remember Me.'
