Movie Jamie Lee Curtis Plans to Retire From Acting

Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed that she plans to retire "in a few years".

The You Again star told AARP magazine that she would prefer not acting at all to the alternative of having to surgically alter her look in order to appear younger on-screen.

"There are people who, when you see them on the screen, there's an audible gasp of 'Oh my God'," she said. "They look terrible - or they've done something to themselves and now look like freaks."

Curtis also praised Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver for defying this trend of actresses having to retire young or seek only supporting roles.

"Then there are people who age beautifully. There is one Meryl Streep and one Sigourney Weaver.

"But I could name 30 other actresses in their [age] groups who aren't working today. Me, I'm getting my ass out of this business in a few years because genetically it's not going to work for me."

Cool

I disagree with Jamie Lee. She looks great! And she comes from a great gene pool! (Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis)

Default When an actress of Jamie Lee's age...

..announces their potential "retirement" from the profession, that usually means, "They're not paying me what I'm worth!"...OR "They don't want an old broad like me anymore!!". I strongly believe it's the latter. And, in all probablility, it is.

It's hard for "older" women to find good parts in film and TV these days (unless you're Betty White, who's suddenly become "the female George Burns", in terms of longevity), and I understand what Jamie is going through {"Sure, Jamie, this part is great for you....if we were filming it ten years ago. I was thinking in terms of your playing the mother of...", "You're not the 'sex symbol' image we were looking for. The only part we've got available is that of Miley's mother- take it or leave it!", "'Grandmother', Jamie....I'm sorry", "Jamie Lee WHO???"}. Perhaps there's one more "breakthrough" role waiting for her before she's finally "put out to pasture"....

This isn't her first "retirement".

She announced that her last flick would be Christmas with the Kranks back in 2004 and then appeared in Beverly Hills Chihuahua in 2008.

I guess in show business "Retirement" is a relative term!

She does have a point about Hollywood not allowing actresses to age naturally. So many actresses today have had way too much cosmetic surgery. I'm glad Jamie Lee has decided to eschew the plastic surgery alternative and to age gracefully.

Jamie looks natural. I'm glad she has chosen not to cut her face, and she has left a touch of gray in her hair. I predict that in about ten years, she will be the next Betty White.

There is another aspect of this which applies to everyone. It's called High Definition Television. Even television movie sets which formerly were fairly crude have to be redone to pass muster. Those wrinkles show up all too easily. And some who have had plastic surgery look horrible. I saw one not too long ago and she looked so butchered it was pathetic and she was a genuine beauty and that was not that long ago. Now she is painful to look at.

I hope she does retire because I can't stand her Activia Commercials!

That's simply because she hasn't done anything else.

She did Freaky Friday, Christmas with the Kranks, and then announced her retirement shortly after.

Then she came back for Beverly Hills Chihuahua and now for You Again.

I have so much respect for actresses who don't have to be surgically altered and just want to age naturally.
