I will never forget singing "Happiness" in the show choir when I was in 8th grade (1993-94 school year). My eyes still tear up whenever I hear it today.

Happy Birthday, Charlie, you wonderful round headed, downtrodden, Everykid! You provided me with endless hours of entertainment as a kid through your TV specials, comic strips, book compilations, and films. May you and the Little Red Haired Girl live happily ever after!

...only a few newspapers carried the strip when it first appeared in October 1950; the Sunday strip wasn't even introduced until January 1952 (and the strip itself didn't start hitting its stride until 1952). If you've ever read the first year's worth of strips, you'll note only four characters appeared: Charlie Brown, Patty, Shermy and Snoopy {the first three appeared in the first strip}. And the tone of it was quite different from what Charles M. Schulz later developed: in another 1950 strip, Patty is walking down the sidewalk, reciting, "Little girls are made from sugar and spice and everything nice...". She then pauses briefly to belt Charlie Brown in the eye {"Whop!"}, then concludes, "That's what little girls are made of!". Still, it's amazing how much "Peanuts" evolved over 50 years....and it all started with one off-kilter gag: "Good ol' Charlie Brown....how I hate him!".
