Question Why Was/Is "Cousin Oliver" Being Disrespected???

Now keep in mind that I was never really a fan of the character, I just wanted to know why whenever there is a reunion or parody involving the cast, he is never included? I really don't think that is fair considering he was a cast member himself.

He wasn't on the show yet when that picture was made.

He actually did appear in the second Brady bunch movie, right at the end.

Robbie Rist was included when the cast of The Brady Bunch appeared on the game show The Weakest Link in 2000. Amazingly, all 6 Brady kids were present along with Florence.

What was also funny is that he was the first one who was voted out of the game.

If I remember correctly he made some comment like "I was the weakest link back then, and I still am now."

I have that ep on tape!!

Anne Robinson: "You will not be allowed to ruin this fine show like you've ruined so many others."
Robbie: "Just say it."
Anne: "You ARE the Weakest Link!"
Robbie: "YES!"
Anne: "GOOD-BYE!!!!!"

He really was a good sport about it. God bless him.

Hey, as long as Robbie Rist can take the jokes. Cousin Oliver was not a bad person, he was just added in at the wrong time.

To answer your question, I think Cousin Oliver wasn't really any worse than many other last minute additions to casts that were intended to boost ratings. In his case the addition was pretty obvious, so he gets a lot of grief from fans. Also since his inclusion was so close to the end of the show (I think he was only really in 6 or 8 episodes) people (wrongly) assume he had something to do with its cancellation.

Retro is correct. LOTS of shows have ruined themselves by adding cast members to try to save the ratings.

And it was only after many years that people started saying that Rist ruined the show. There weren't a lot of complaints about him at the time it was happening. The show never did have a big audience to begin with, so he couldn't have been THAT bad for the ratings.

I did not mind the character but his presence seemed to me to be taking time away from the Bradys that I loved that I tuned in to watch.

I think it boiled down to the fact that he was a late add in too. I was never a fan of the kid, however I didn't harbor any bad feelings toward him after all it wasn't his fault he was simply there to play a part. IMO, before he came on scene I feel that TBB had ran it's course with the kids growing up and them basically going through every experience humanly possible. I don't think he was the reason the show ended, I think he was their scape goat.
