There was a brief, 10-minute pilot that was shot after the filming of a Happy Days episode. I don't know anything regarding its plot, though.

I always thought the Happy Days episode where Fonz and Richie went on a double date with Laverne and Shirley served as the pilot for Laverne & Shirley.

Apparently, ABC was so thrilled with the Laverne and Shirley characters from "A Date with Fonzie," they wanted a series as soon as possible. There wasn't enough time to produce a complete pilot, so Garry Marshall had his writers throw something together, and they shot it directly after a Happy Days episode had finished filming. The first scene in the opening title sequence (seen during the first five seasons) with the girls walking by the aparment buildings was shot here.

Why it hasn't been included as an extra on the L&S dvd sets is a mystery.

HEY Happy Days, i have just finished writing my letter to cbs/paramount knowing that what i have to say, might not do them any good but it was worth a try. i will post and share the letter with you fans, and if anybody wants on your own time to join me in voicing our concerns about the state of there DVDS feel free too, maybe this letter will finally opened up there eyes.
peace.

Dear Paramount Programming:
I am a huge fan, of all of your classic programs, from the 70’s 80’s and whatever era.
My reason of writing you once again, which I have done so in the past, is to make a suggestion as only a viewer. As you all know, that I am a huge fan of HD L&S and M&M. I have the DVD’S from the first season, and of the forth season pertaining to Happy Days. I did not buy season 2 of HD which we all know the reason why, of which I am not going to get into, because based on the negative reviews and the complaints from viewers and fans like myself, you already know what the answers are.
To make the long story short, and to get to the main point, we the fans really want to know, do you have any intentions of continuing releasing Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy. Because we are almost entering into 2011, and we the fans are in entitled and very concerned about the directions of where these DVDs are going.
Yes we all know that the economy and the times are bad which is hurting the licensing for the music editing the picture quality and everything else that comes along within the territory.
Which we all can be a testament to it, because we are seeing it each and everyday, but there has got to be some decision being made, because as a respectful and loyal fan, of all of your movies and televisions programs, we deserve to know whether or not the rest of the shows will ever be released. Because I have told you all of this plenty of times, that we cannot go back into a time capsule and watched all of these shows on the regular networks, because they have passed there prime, the only way that we can relive those moments is by them being presented on the DVDs with everything intact.
By you not deciding whether or not to go on releasing these DVDs you are totally isolating your viewers fan based, and when you put the DVD’s out with the lack of picture quality music and whatever was intact, the fans will see that CBS/Paramount does not care about these shows or how they are presented.
I am not telling you how to run your business because to be quite honest, I do not have any control on what your company does. I am only hear to speak out and voiced my opinion.
But here is a suggestion, which I hope in the future that your company will take it into consideration, and I am praying to god that you do. I am quite sure your studio has been getting complaints and non stop phone calls about these DVD’s every being released, but here is a proposition for you, which again is only a suggestion which of course I am positively sure that the producers would kindly agree. To make the fans happy, and to make life much easier, why don’t you team up with a third party like Time Life who in my personally opinion is working with other major studious which is giving the fans exactly what they want.
As a matter of face I was reading on another website that they had teamed up with Universal Studios to released unedited with all of the original footages intact the Six Million Man and the Bionic Woman sometime in November. And Time Life is dominating and to me they are superior, I mean everything that they touched turns into gold. Look if you want your DVDs sells to do well especially pertaining to Happy Days and so on, I would team up with them, to show the complete series in the way in which it should have been shown.
Because honestly I believe that Time Life will be working in the future with other studious to bring as well as give the fans exactly what they want and deserved.
Can you imagine Time Life doing all f the HD L&S and M&M sets with all of the original footages unedited scenes, music bumpers and spin-off cartoons which you will not see anywhere else, which is something to seriously take a hard good look at.
My high school teacher used to tell me, that if you see a road that you cannot get past, you build another one, if you see that these DVDs are not doing well, let Time Life take a shoot at it.
Again its only a suggestion, but to the fans, you are running out of options.
On one of the Happy Days sets I can see Love American Style which was the original spin off, the lost unaired pilot of Laverne &Shirley that’s if they had one, interviews and commentary.
Once again I can only give suggestion, which is up to you to make the final call.
Thank you for your time and patience.

Hey happy days fans, sorry I keep on bugging you guys, but do not worry after while ill be leaving soon anyway. Hey I just had a brilliant idea, pertaining to Happy Days Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy. To make the long story short, I had called up Time Life requesting of what programs I would love to see them get and commercially advertised. I spoke with one of there customer representatives which the coolest people that you would ever meet, as well as talk to. They told me that the more calls they get pertaining to classic shows that they want to see, they forward over to there head boss for suggestions, and they told me, that the more phone calls that they get, the more they listen to what the people want to see, which was why I told you all that I believe that the third party like Time Life will listen to the people and put what we all have been waiting to see. And knowing time life they care about there fans, which was the key of them compiling and putting together soul train and now they are working with Universal Studios to bring out the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman, look its only a suggestion, but if they are willing to listen to us the people and confirm to them of what they want to see, maybe that can persuade CBS/paramount to team up with them to finally released or start over the box set of Happy Days Laverne & Shirley Mork and Mindy series featuring the commentary interviews, lost unaired pilots, spin off animated cartoon series, music remastered footages and the commercial bumpers, and I am not worried about the music because knowing time life they could get them, because they are globally known. Hey lets get real, we all do not no whether or not CBS/Paramount will ever release the rest of the seasons, buts its worth giving it to a company who is dominating the studious themselves. But if you guys want to voice or express your opinion there number is 1800-950-7887 call them up and tell them how you all want to see all of these shows digital restored and everything intact peace.

There haven't been any extras in any of the three Garry Marshall series DVD sets, so far.

I guess the real mystery is why all of these releases have been totally devoid of extra's!
