Let's see, Edith Almost getting raped, A cross dresser beaten to death, A Jewish radical murdered, etc...

Was this really a sitcom or a dramedy?

I for one loved the idea of mixing the serious issues into the show and that was yet another reason IMO that made it so unique for it's time. All that stuff today isn't a big deal when seeing it on TV because sadly it has become the norm. I think the "shock factor" was AITF's biggest ally.

Oh he ABSOLUTELY pushed the boundaries...and GOD BLESS him for it. The show was sparkling, innovative, sensitive, and still has a freshness and vibrancy even almost 40 yrs later.

Yes some of the issues were controversial and very in-your-face, but that's probably made you really think about them. No other show like it.

Thank God CBS let AITF be the way it was & that no big wig went all Church Lady over it.

One of the best things (if not the best) that happened to TV.
