"Lone Star" on Death Watch: Series Faces Cancellation After Just One Episode
by Jean Bentley posted Sept 22nd 2010 Critics may have collectively loved "Lone Star", but that doesn't mean viewers tuned in when the show premiered on Monday night. After a disastrous showing in the ratings -- only 4.1 million people tuned in to Fox for the drama's debut -- the promising new series is now at risk of cancellation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show's dismal debut means that "Lone Star", about a Texas con man juggling his wife and girlfriend, will inevitably be canceled -- it's just a matter of when. "No one in TV should be happy about this," an agent of a "Lone Star" writer told THR. "This is going to have a chilling effect on networks taking chances on anything but cookie-cutter shows." "Lone Star" dropped 68 percent from its lead-in, "House", and more than half of "House's" viewers had switched off the station by 9:15. "Those are Friday night numbers on a Monday night premiere," said TV analyst Brad Adgate. "That's a nice cable audience." THR attributed "Lone Star's" terrible performance to several factors -- a crowded Monday programming slate, the previously unknown lead, the originality of its plot. What could prevent the show from joining the illustrious 'canceled after one episode' club is the fact that Fox programming chief Kevin Reilly reportedly personally nurtured the show, and the wait for DVR ratings, which, considering the competition, could boost the numbers considerably. http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/09/22/lo...on-after-just/ |

This is the world we live in.
A show is cancelled after 1 episode. Think the world might be moving a bit too fast? How can we teach our children patience when there is no evidence of it in the world? Even more so, how do we remember to be patient? |

Monday is the busiest night on TV - certainly not the best slot to try schedule something new or different

^it's not against House, it's House's lead-out on Fox. I'm really disappointed in the news.

I have it on the DVR but I'm going to cancel it. No reason to get hooked on it when you know the result.

I was going to watch this, but I forgot... Hate to hear that the show is facing cancellation after only one episode. I had seen the lead actor James Wolk's brilliant performance in Hallmark Hall of Fame's production of Front of the Class, the inspiring true story about a man suffering from Tourette's Syndrome who goes on to become a successful teacher. I knew we would see more of his talent, but it's sad to think his first series could be cancelled so quickly...

![]() It's either up against The Event or Chase. The Event is one of the most anticipated shows on the season (and for good reason). I don't know how people felt about Chase. Plus, it's on the same night as Dancing with the Stars (to my knowledge) |

Fox Shelves "Lone Star" After Two Episodes
Sept 28, 2010 by Kate Stanhope Fox has shelved "Lone Star" after just two episodes. The network announced that "Lie to Me" -- which originally was scheduled to premiere in November — will take "Lone Star's" timeslot, beginning Monday. "Lone Star" is not officially canceled, but likely will be after two weeks of abysmal ratings. Network officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday about whether the series' remaining episodes will air. The show failed to connect with viewers despite a heavy promotional campaign from Fox. "Lone Star" premiered Sept. 20 to 4.1 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic. The series' episode this week dipped to just 3.8 million viewers — despite an open letter to fans from series creator/executive producer Kyle Killen. "For us to survive we're going to have to pull off a minor miracle. Statistically, new shows tend to lose viewers in their second week. We're aiming to gain them," Killen wrote on his personal blog Thursday. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Lone-Sta...d-1023754.aspx |

Bad news, but not entirely surprising. I'm sure James Wolk will be offered a new series/movie very quickly...

I watched the 60-minute encore of episode 2 of 'Lone Star' last night on FOX at 11 pm, largely to see whether there were additional scenes not shown in Monday nights 57-minute broadcast. I didn't see any new scenes, but I sure enjoyed watching this drama a second time around.
I am waiting with bated breath to see whether FOX continues using the Saturday at 11 pm timeslot to play off the remaining four unaired episodes of 'Lone Star'. While there will be no resolution by the end of episode 6, I'm very keen to see how this densely-plotted series evolved over its precious few six episodes. |
