BAKER--Marilyn Cantor 89 Marilyn Cantor Baker died on Friday, September 17, 2010, in her home in New York City. She was the fourth daughter of Eddie Cantor, star of stage, screen, radio and television. Fiercely independent and known to her friends and family as irreverently funny, she enjoyed a long and fruitful life as an actor, singer-comedienne, theatrical producer, TV writer and performer. Cantor Baker performed with her father on television's Colgate Comedy Hour, What's My Line, and in a variety of television and radio appearances. In her twenties, Cantor Baker performed a night club act at Le Ruban Bleu and Blue Angel in New York, and in the Loews Circuit, including Las Vegas. She started her career at Leon & Eddie's in New York, under the stage name Marilyn Curtis. Shortly after graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Art in the early 1940's, she became the first woman disc jockey in New York on WNEW radio. She created "Sidney Shore," which in 1981 became the innovative sit-com "Love, Sidney," starring Tony Randall. Cantor-Baker worked tirelessly in the 1950's and 60's to raise money for State of Israel Bonds, also narrating the Israeli fashion shows. She leaves behind Mike, her husband of 50-plus years, daughter Lynne, son Jed, daughter-in-law Beth, and grandchildren, Joe, Sam and Jack Eichner, and Jake and Lindsay Baker. From her beloved husband, Mike: "My heart aches for you Mar . . . You are always on my mind You are always in my heart You are always by my side And you always will be. I love you with all my heart. Just know that I always will." Cantor Baker always looked forward to greeting each New Year with a party for about 100 of her dearest friends, most of whom have preceded her in death. The family would like to believe that her friends are expecting her for another gala get-together.
