Thumbs up Movie Reviews: "The Town"

Movie Reviews: The Town

A few critics aren’t especially enthusiastic about Ben Affleck’s The Town, which he directed, starred in, and co-wrote.

To A.O. Scott of the New York Times, it’s just a “solid minor entry in the annals of Boston crime drama.”

Ty Burr in the Boston Globe calls it “a pretty decent crime drama.”

And Michael Phillips in the Chicago Tribune says that it’s “worth seeing for its actors.”

But most of them — even those who have often criticized his performances in recent films — are freely handing out props to Affleck.

Kenneth Turan in the Los Angeles Times writes that the movie:
“solidifies Affleck’s reputation as an actor with a genuine gift for directing.”

Ann Hornaday in the Washington Post credits him for turning out:
“a first-class genre entry stacked with dandy performances and some crackerjack action to boot.”

Lou Lumenick in the New York Post writes that Affleck:
“delivers the goods as an actor and director” and with this film “finally erases all memory of the smirking actor who used to coast through so many movies.”

Claudia Puig in USA Today poses this reminder:
“Just think: Gigli came out in 2003. Since then, his resilience and commitment to overcoming missteps is impressive.”

Similarly Chris Vognar concludes in the Dallas Morning News that with The Town, Affleck:
“forges ahead with one of the best Hollywood second-act stories in recent memory.”

I'm gonna see this next weekend. Ben Affleck is lucky to have 2 girlfriends in this movie who are hot which is Rebecca Hall and Blake Lively. Ben should do more action movies and i don't know why he hasn't. Reindeer Games movie he did is very good. I know he was happy to have a sex scene with Charlize Theron hahahahahahahahaha.

I do want to see this one.

By the way, Charlize Theron mentioned that Reindeer Games is the least favorite of her own film work.

I don't know why Charlize said that because most of her movies suck LOL. I've seen several of them just because she's hot hahahahahahahahaha. When i look on the back of her dvd's, i check to see if there's any sex in it because if there is, then i think she might be naked in the movie hahahahaha. I got a few pictures of her on my bedroom wall half naked from Esquire magazine when she was voted Sexiest Woman Of The Year a few years ago and i got some pictures of her naked when she posed for Playboy magazine before she became a actress. She is so hot. I bet her ex-boyfriend Stuart Townsend wishes she hadn't dumped him. I know he misses having sex with her LOL.

JamesG, would you consider Ben's Paycheck movie a action flick? It was alright.

Yeah, she called Reindeer Games "a bad, bad movie" and mentioned that the only good thing was getting to work with deceased director John Frankenheimer.

Paycheck is a sci-fi thriller w/ action.

I do wish John Woo would return to American cinema. After that film flopped he hasn't directed an American picture again.

I don't think Reindeer Games sucked. I liked it. Have you seen it JamesG? I like a few Charlize movies. One of her best is Trapped with Kevin Bacon. That's real good.
