Oh No ABC Really Missed The Ball By NOT Spinning Off Sara Rush From 'Too Close For Comfort'

She probably was one of the main reasons the show got ratings! I mean sure, there was Ted Knight too, but who could resist Lydia Cornell's character? They could've spun off Sara Rush as a weather girl in a new city. Instead, ABC tried to spinoff a Lanie Kazan character. Yawn!

It would not had worked. There was no substance to the character of Sara Rush.

I agree. She had the looks but I couldn't see her carrying a show.

I agree that Sara needed the supporting cast around her and couldn't do it alone but who the hell is Lanie Kazan??

Nope! *buzzz!!!*

Sara's character was just 2 IQ points above Chrissy Snow. Do you honestly think you could've made a whole series out of Chrissy Snow? That "blond ditz" act has a very short shelf life as it is, and it gets older and less tolerable the older the actress gets. I can't imagine being exposed to that non-stop for an entire half hour, let alone a whole season or more!

Lanie Kazan is an actress that starred as the mother in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. She was in a lot of other stuff too. Just escapes me at the moment.

I agree. There's not enough to do with just Sara in a series. I'm sure that's why they never did it!

The final two episodes of the third season were pilots for other shows. In the episode "Family Business", Lanie Kazan played the role of the mother/business owner of the construction company that was putting the third floor addition on the Rush apartment. It was the only episode she appeared in. Interestingly, one of her sons was played by Jimmy Baio from Soap.

BTW, both failed pilot episodes are on You Tube.

I agree. Although Sara was a lead character, I viewed her as more of a supporting character. She was there to provide a ditzy blonde with a great body and not much else.

Agree with everyone, Sara was gorgeous but there didn't seem to be enough depth in the character to warrant a full series.

I will say that Lydia Cornell, the actress that played Sara, is, from what I've heard, extremely intelligent and talented and has done quite well for herself since leaving the show.
