I've read that "Leave it to Beaver" basically fit in between two real-life events: October 4, 1957 - USSR successfully orbits Sputnik I (the first artificial satellite to orbit the earth) and (just over ten weeks after its last network show) November 22, 1963 - the assasination of President Kennedy.
Kind of ironic that this relaxing, easy-going family show came right between these historic two events that received world-wide attention. |

Speaking of the last episode, I'm wondering what it was like for the cast to say goodbye to each other, unaware that they would work together again one day....with the exception of Hugh of course. A few of them worked closely for the whole run, especially for Hugh and Barbara who had to work late because of the kids having to film early because of working laws. I bet it was quite sad.
