FIRST syndicated the black and white episodes of "Bewitched",were THEY offered to the stations that carried only the color episodes uncut?

Don't hold me to this answer because I'm not sure it's correct-----but my memory says that from the time Bewitched entered syndication until Nick-At-Nite came along, they only showed Seasons 3-8. Then the B&W episodes were reintroduced on N-At-N.
One of the reasons I think this is because I watched the show for years without knowing about the first Gladys Kravitz or seeing any episodes in B&W. I think it happened that way with a lot of shows----the B&W seasons of Jeannie, the pilots for Get Smart and Hogan's Heroes, etc. If I have this wrong or only partially right, someone please fill in the blanks. |

I remember this too, the syndicated showings never did the black and white until Nick at Nite.

I remember growing up and watching them on various local stations as well as TBS when it first began showing Bewitched. When the b&w episodes began disappearing I even remember staying up until 2:00 am to watch some b&w episodes on a local station in Birmingham, AL. Later, when the b&w episodes of Bewitched completely vanished from TBS, I quickly recorded the b&w episodes of I Dream of Jeannie and was so glad I did. It was soon after that the station pulled them from the rotation. I always remember watching the entire Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie series in syndication UNTIL the early 1980s. That's why when the cable network Nick @ Nite first began airing Bewitched the promos stated, "Not shown in over a decade" and later when N@N began showing I Dream of Jeannie the promo stated, "Not shown in nearly a decade" (as those b&w episodes were shown a little longer on TBS). As stated above - when TBS began airing Bewitched around 1980 it aired the entire series (as had always been done but then dropped the first two seasons) BUT on the "Coming Up Next" promo the shot of Darrin and Samantha in evening attire from the episode 'Mother Meets What's His Name' from season one CONTINUED being shown well after TBS stopped airing the b&w episodes. Apparently the reason the b&w episodes were dropped from syndication from series which switched to color in the midst of their runs was because 'the powers that be' didn't think people wanted to watch black and white. Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie had enough episodes without their b&w seasons to sustain an adequate syndicated package (unlike showssuch as Gilligan's Island that only ran for three seasons). That's why those b&w episodes continued to be aired until Ted Turner colorized them. |

interestingly, when N@N begain airing "Bewitched," it ONLY showed the B&W episodes for a number of years. The color ones could be seen on TBS and many local stations. Then N@N acquired the color eps, and for awhile it was the only place "Bewitched" could been seen at all.
Just curious....have the colorized versions of the season 1 & 2 B&W episodes ever been aired on TV? Or was just done for the DVD? I would be curious to see it just to see it...I wouldn't buy it though, I'd rather have the B&W originals. |

In the earlier part of this decade The Hallmark Channel aired the colorized episodes (with the rest of the seasons of the series too in the original running order) of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. Oddly enough at the season 1 end credits of I Dream of Jeannie the 2nd - 5th season theme was played instead of the original 1st season closing theme BUT all of the original music of all versions of the season 1 opening theme and 'bridge' was played (the animated 1st season opening AND the 'recap' opening used on episodes 2 - 8 which showed scenes from when Capt. Nelson found Jeannie on the deserted island). The end credits DOES HAVE the ORIGINAL theme music for the 1st season on the colorized version of the DVDs. Everything was the way it was originally for Bewitched when it was on The Hallmark Channel....

I certainly remember seeing the b&w episodes when I was a kid on my local CBS station, though they usually started the run with episode 2 "Be it Ever So Mortgaged".

Seems like there were also a lot of decisions made by the affiliates once they got the syndicated eps...
...I wish my local stations had shown the first 2 seasons.

I remember seeing the black and white episodes of "I DREAM OF JEANIE" on a local station on weekday mornings in the 70s.

When I first realized there were black and white episodes of "Bewitched" was when they got to the end of the Dick Sargent as Darrin episodes on a local station(KMTV-Ch.3,Omaha,Nebraska ),and began airing the black and white episodes with Dick York as Darrin. This was in the late 1970's-early 1980's,before Ch.3 went to news at 5:00 PM.
