Lucy Footage in Season Two inerview

Just finished watching the extras on the final disk of the Season Two Box set of "The Lucy Show" and I was curious to know about the origin of the great footage of Lucy zipping around the Desilu Lot in her golf cart carrying a huge Christmas Tree in the back. It was shown during the terrific interview Tony Miaetta conducted with Barry Livingstone. Does anyone know what those clips are from? Some Desilu promo perhaps? I've never seen it before and was wondering if it appeared on some other DVD as an extra or whether in fact it was a part of a later episode (even though it was in black and white) Any helps with identifying it would be great. Thanks!

I can't answer that particular question, but would like to mention the footage of Lucy, Desi and the kids on vacation in Hawaii with Mary Wickes, and Vivian Vance and Phil Ober. It looked like that was around 1957. I thought it was cool seeing them off on vacation together. I wonder why William Frawley didn't join them?

Where was that footage shown? I must have missed that extra on the DVD set.

The Hawaii vacation footage was actually one of the extra's on the "Here's Lucy" season three set.

Oops, sorry! This is what happens to me when I'm watching these DVDs too close together. They get all scrambled up in my mind and I can't remember what is what.

It happens to me too! I had to read the back of the DVD cases to find out which set it was on!

Besides the TLS and HL releases, theres tons of behind the scenes film footage on Lucy & Desi: A Home Movie! Lucie Arnaz once said Lucy "saved" everything. Its facinating to be able to watch all this stuff.

Well thank God that Lucy did save everything ever filmed as it provides an invaluable record of life at Desilu right throughout the "The Lucy Show" years. It also means that hopefully there will be heaps of interesting things/footage that will be able to be included in the subsequent releases of "The Lucy Show" season 3-6

I wouldn't count on any of that stuff that Lucy saved being on any releases of The Lucy Show (other than behind-the-scenes stuff filmed on the grounds at Desilu) because it's all family stuff owned by Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. CBS/Paramount (which owns The Lucy Show) doesn't have any rights to those materials and they probably wouldn't be willing to pay Lucie and Desi Jr. to use them. And Lucie and Desi Jr. own nothing produced by Desilu, but they own everything produced by Lucille Ball Productions (Here's Lucy and the 1970s/1980s Lucille Ball specials, and a few unsold pilots), and Desi Arnaz Productions (The Mothers-in-Law). So you'll be seeing these home movies and other personal possessions of Lucille Ball on releases of shows produced by Lucille Ball Productions and Desi Arnaz Productions, but there's little likelihood you'll see any of it on releases of The Lucy Show.

Well you never know what might turn up or what arrangements are made. They are obviously putting alot of effort and detail into these "The Lucy Show" releases so we will wait and see.

They certainly are. I know the guys who have been putting together the TLS DVDs and they've been scouring the CBS vaults trying to dig up stuff, so far very successfully. It's been very labor intensive work.

I'm hoping for season three that they really go all out to make Viv's last season a special one. i wish they'd do a short doco on Vivian Vance and her great career as Lucy's side kick and get the three children together for a discussion and ESPECIALLY ask them how they all felt about being written out at the end of the season. Season three has the immortal Ann Sothern's first appearances as Lucy's friend the Countess so I hope they make something special out of those episodes too. I'm hoping this next season is released prior to Christmas. Fingers crossed.

Since no one has answered your original question, but this thread has been interesting nonetheless, I will attempt a guess and answer that the film footage was very possibly taken from the Desilu Revue, which originally aired Christmas Day 1959. I have seen clips from that special on another website, and it had to do with Lucy working with her Desilu Playhouse troupe at putting on a party & show. Having Lucy driving around the Desilu lot in a golf cart w/ Christmas tree would fit into the theme of that special very well.

I think you are correct. Somehow I missed this particular clip in the extras on the TLS DVD set, but I was thinking yesterday that I seemed to recollect something of that nature in the Desilu Revue special, which I purchased an inferior copy of about 14 or 15 years ago. I watched that special once, at the time I purchased it, and I didn't really care for it, so I haven't seen it since. As such, my specific memories of it are not very sharp.

I really like that idea of a documentary on Vivian. That would be a very nice touch to wrap up those three seasons. As for the three kids, it would be nice but it ain't gonna be easy to get Ralph Hart and Candy Moore there. They both ultimately showed up one of the Burbank Lucy conventions several years ago, but only after a lot of arm twisting. My understanding about Ralph Hart is his life is totally outside of show business now. He lives in some rural community far from L.A. and doesn't get much of a kick out of talking about something he did for three years during his childhood, which is understandable. I don't think I'd have much interest in being interviewed about my years in the cub scouts. But he's been talked into doing this sort of thing before, so maybe he can be again. As for Candy Moore, I know why she is reluctant, but I'm hopeful that her mind can be changed, too. When she showed up at that Burbank convention, which I think was either in 2000 or 2001, everyone was talking about how beautiful she looked. And it was true: the years had treated her very well. Perhaps she also takes very good care of herself. But she looked great. I think she's a little on the shy side and rather humble. She brought along her then-teenage daughter and I remember her commenting on how shocked her daughter was when hundreds of people lined up behind a table to get her mother's autograph.
