TVSquad Talks To Piers Morgan on Replacing Larry King on CNN
Piers Morgan Talks About Filling Larry King's Suspenders on CNN
by Michael Maloney posted Sept 9th 2010 We won't know until next week who the winner of "America's Got Talent" is, but this week Piers Morgan has emerged the victor -- of the battle to replace Larry King. TV Squad caught up with Morgan after he taped "AGT's" results show. Here's what he had to say about his new gig, which starts in January: What are you going to call the show? Well, I hope it has my name in it. [Laughs] Every other show on CNN has a name in it. I'd feel left out if mine doesn't. The possibility you might take over for Larry King has been talked about for awhile. What was the delay in announcing it? The delay wasn't to do with any visa issue or CNN and I negotiating. That only took about three weeks. It was actually quite quick. The delay was because I was under contract with NBC for "America's Got Talent". So to be able to do the CNN show NBC had to release me. That took quite a long time. Are you going to be leaving "America's Got Talent"? No. I'm staying on the show. NBC has extended my option for another three years. So I'm definitely coming back next year and they've got options for two more after that. Where are you going to do your CNN show? New York, mainly. Los Angeles, when talent is here. And London when I'm back there. You have the opportunity to enlighten, educate and inform. What do you want to do with the show? Those three things will be good. But also entertain, have fun, probe, show a bit of the journalism that I've been immersed in during most of my career. I was the editor of two major national newspapers in Great Britain for ten years. Most Americans may not know that about me. Who would you like to have as guests? All the obvious suspects. I'd love to get President Obama, Mel Gibson, Lindsay Lohan. I saw that Iman Feisal is giving an interview to CNN speaking about the Mosque row in New York. That's the kind of mix I love. You go from something very serious to something frivolous, then back to serious. Larry King has been mocked and spoofed by at least three different "SNL" cast members -- Kevin Nealon, Norm MacDonald and Fred Armisen. Are you ready to get lampooned? I can think of nothing I'd rather have happen than be lampooned on "SNL". Rip away, everyone! http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/09/09/pi...enders-on-cnn/ |
