Question Do you/have you kept a Diary/Journal?

I kept a diary from age 14 through 18. I read it every now and then, and I'm always amazed at how little I've changed. I've certainly matured; I can see myself maturing in the course of the diary. Still, my heart remains the same. An intense love of animals, an extremely generous nature (which turned out to be a failing on my part). I had two serious boyfriends. One from the age of 13 to 18, and the other from 17 through 21. Yes, I had a year of indecision there. The one I took prom made me decide, for obvious reasons. I wish I chronicled the second relationship more because I've naturally forgotten a lot that I wish I didn't.

I keep a journal now, but only write in it when I'm angry. I guess that's good. A therapist recommended it to me. It helps to vent on paper, when it's a good idea to not blast the person....e.g.. a boss, a teacher, an in-law, someone like that.

I had a diary for years when I was growing up. I think it was one of those diaries that was only supposed to be for a year, but I was the kind of kid that didn't write in it everyday so it lasted much longer than it would have on a daily basis. I eventually ripped out several pages and threw those away along with the rest of the diary. I couldn't bare to hold on to it. The pages I ripped up were to painful to keep. I should have kept them though as they would have been helpful later on when I filed charges against my ex-stepfather.

Anyone who didn't or can't appreciate your generosity doesn't deserve your friendship Janice. I'm sorry that you have been hurt and let down by so many people. You deserve better. I know it's hard to have faith in people esp. considering the way you have been treated. I don't understand how some people can be so ungrateful. It's not a flaw of yours, but a flaw of those individuals. Shame on them.

I blog on an online, private journal (livejournal). I've been updating it for years. I'd say I've had it since 2004(?). It's amazing how I've changed as well. It's nice to go back and reminisce, although there are some entries that make me cringe I used to keep a written journal when I was a kid but I stopped using it. I no longer have that one but I wish I did.

Not Really...

I do write "Dear God" Letters and I was informed to get a notebook and make a Journal for myself.

I'll do that this weekend when I go to Hartville.

Yes I do. I have written and kept my diary since starting as a teenager. I don't have the greatest handwriting and I write so small so I do have a hard reading the entries sometime. As the first poster said " I have changed so little. I see life that way as I am doing the same social things as I did ten years ago which sad is say is very little. In fact it is dull. But things in the neighborhood changes, deaths, new houses, when we did this, why that was bought and how much it cost is always fun to look back on. Every so oftern I look at a diary of say 5 years ago and wonder what was going on. I laugh some, nod my head some and say oh I remember that bad/great day. I read somewhere that Beau Bridges mom kept a diary since heard teens til she died. My only wonder as I age is "what is to become of the diaries after I die. Will they be read. I have nothing, sad to say, that is spicy. So most likely they will be thrown away.
