Default Jerry Lewis Telethon

Anyone see this year's Jerry Lewis Telethon, especially the closing portion when he was in tears singing his traditional closing song "You'll Never Walk Alone"? I thought he wouldn't be able to get through the song.

Same here. I didn't notice the Telethon being aired on any of my channels.

Default In my area...

...I saw the telethon on two stations: WWOR-TV in New York, and WGN in Chicago (courtesy of my friendly cable provider). Channel 9 in New York was on from 9pm Sunday night through 7pm on Monday. They carried the "national" portion, featuring Jerry from Las Vegas, live...but Channel 9 in Chicago didn't sign on until 11pm(et)/10pm(ct)- and they delayed Jerry's portions of the telethon by two hours! In fact, because WGN was contractually bound to carry a Chicago Cubs game at 2pm(et) [and they were finally airing Jerry's segments live around 1pm, shortly before they had to cut away], they didn't return locally until about 5:30...and again, the national portion was delayed about two hours after I saw it on WWOR!

I was surprised that Jerry signed off early; he usually stays on until 6pm(et). This year, he ended the national portion of the telethon shortly after 5:30...and I remember the ending of one telethon, many years ago, when Jerry was so choked up while singing "You'll Never Walk Alone", he couldn't finish the song- he put his mike on the stool, walked off the stage crying...and that was that. Now, I got to see this year's ending twice, because WGN stayed on locally until 8pm(et)/7pm(ct)...and they finished their local portion around 7:50, then presented Jerry's closing remarks (on tape) so they could end the telethon with him....
