I think the antics of Richard Dawson and the other celebrity panelists were the most entertaining part of the show and that's what audiences were really tuning in to see. I don't think there were tuning in to find out just how dumb Dumb Dora was!!

I don't think Richard Dawson destroyed Match Game. He was the panelist who was always chosen on the Head to Head Match and help contestants win lots of cash. I think his departure, as well as the Star Wheel and numerous time changes led to the show's cancellation.

Towards the end of his run on MG, Richard's "I don't care" attitude definitely put a damper on the fun. It became obvious that he did not want to be there anymore, though he did continue to match contestants and win money for them. But hey, the show went on without him for another three years.
