Default Did you think that they were going to put S&R together?

Watching them together in the beggining I have to wonder if those of you thought they were going to pair them eventually. (And I don't mean just sleep together)

Cetainly seems that way from the writing but IMO they lacked the charm that S&D had. I wonder when the producers realized that and made them just friends.

IMO they have that "Destined to be Friends" type chemistry yet they seemed to be pushing them together.

Default a slight correction....

That's supposed to read "I have to wonder if those of you that watched from back when the shows first aired....."

I've only seen (mostly) eps on N@N, but I wouldn't think that, for one reason; Diane. I mean, wasnt it kinda inevitable that she would be coming back(even though Diane and Sam didnt get together either)?

I don't want to say Rebecca was a "filler" character, but its almost what she kinda was

I also think Diane could be the reason. I mean, everyone knows Sam is still thinking about her (at least). Why would they put Rebecca and Sam together anyway? It did seem like the natural thing to do, but that is the beauty of it! It went against the odds. So did the thing with Sam and Diane. You never thought they would get together with them constantly fighting, but then in the ep when Diane's cat dies, you know it will happen soon. Then, when she comes back from Goldenbrook, you figure she will still love Sam and they will get back together in that season, but they don't. She still loves him, but she doesn't say it. And then the whole thing about them getting married was a complete suprise to me, even if they never got married! That is just my opinion.

I didn't really think they were going to put them together like Sam and Diane, but I wished they had, that would have been too predictable though. I know ya'll are diehard Sam and Diane fans, but I liked the chemistry between Sam and Rebecca. They had that friendship with benefits type chemistry, it always cracks me up when he's always hitting on her. I think Sam cared for Rebecca, but in a different way than he did for Diane. I'm sorry, but I didn't care for Diane, and liked Rebecca a lot better and that's why I like the chemistry between Sam and Rebecca better.

Default But see....

That's my point. All S&R had was a friendship type chemistry "with Benefits" so to speak. Whether or not you liked Diane or not... she and Sam had IT which is what made them a memorable couple.

Together they were great, Seperately they were a mess. Diane was annoying and Sam was a smarmy pig after everyone in a skirt.

Until they became friends I didn't see anything that showed he felt different about "bagging" Rebecca than the other women. Now as I said, that changed later on but only after they quit trying to pair them romantically.

I see your point, but what I'm really trying to say is that I didn't like Sam and Diane together, I'm probably the only one who didn't like them together, but that's just me. They needed a new woman for Sam to try and get with because the Sam and Diane thing was getting old anyway.

Wink

When Cheers originally aired, I loved Diane and Sam together. But, now that I'm older they seem so wrong together. I think I thought they would get Sam and Rebecca together because TV shows always seem to do that. I'm glad they didn't and that Sam realized he could be good friends with an attractive woman.
