Question A present for Freddie?

If Freddie were still with us and you had the opportunity, what would you like to give him for Christmas? And what would you like him to give you?

Talking Present for Freddie

I was lucky enough to know him, and the best thing I ever sent him was a copy of the poem "Desiderata." He said it really picked him up when he was down. At least it helped sometimes...and that makes me feel good. These days, I'd probably still try to find some poetry or jazz he'd like.

As far as "Me" giving a present to Freddie........ I would give him anything he wanted. All I would ask from him is to be my friend.

Cool Fine Freddie

Hi Jennie! Thanks for the warm welcome. I met Freddie through the poem I mentioned, actually. I've always been fascinated by comedians, and I noticed Freddie and his talent long before Chico. I saw him on the Carson show talking about the upcoming show, and he mentioned that it was opening on a Friday the 13th. He joked around about it, but I think he was a little nervous. Anyway, I wrote him in care of the show before it had actually aired. Because it was so early, he wasn't getting the amazing volume of fan mail he got later, so he actually had a chance to read my letter and the poem. I told him that Friday 13 had always been lucky for me, and that I was sure it would be for him, too. I told him that the poem would help him through any tough spots. A few weeks later, he called me, and we talked for two hours. He said the poem had arrived at a moment when he was having some anxiety, and that it had, in fact, helped him through. He gave me his home address and phone number, and we stayed in touch, though not as often after the show really hit it big. I actually got to spend some time with him when he played at Valley Forge near here during the first hiatus of the show. By that time, he was with Kathy, so I met her, too. Eventually, when he got into the 'ludes, he kind of shut out everyone, and I couldn't get through to him. I saw him once more, but he was so wired and crazy that it wasn't the same. Still, I miss him. Some time I'll tell you about my friendship with Jimmie Komack, too.

Welcome to the site! You are so blessed to have known him. That was so sweet of him to have become friends with a fan. I hope you don't mind if I copy your story here & put it on my site I'm working on on him & CATM. I'll give ya the credit for it. He sounds like a sweet person who sadly had alot of problems. Bless his heart...

Thanks for the welcome. Feel free to use the story. I'll tell you a few about Jimmie Komack (the producer), too, if you like.

Thanks! I'd love to use your James Komack story on my site too. It's a work in progress that is taking forever to do. Websites are hard work.

hmmmm...... a present for Freddie.... I've said it before, I could deny him NOTHING! What ever he wanted, he would have. How could ANYONE say no to those BIG BROWN EYES! (sigh) and all I would want is the chance to look into them.
