Hello, this is hch. I am writing to ask if anyone has heard of the movie The Wiz? If you haven't, then I'll tell you. The Wiz was an all-black version of the popular The Wizard of Oz. It starred Diana Ross as Dorothy, Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, Nipsey Russell as the Tin Man, and Ted Ross as the Lion. It used New York City locations for the land of Oz, including the ill-fated World Trade Center. But anyway, it was very impresive and it was faithful to the Broadway play and in some ways, the original book.
What do you all think of this movie, if anyone has evere heard of it or seen it? This is one of those movies that is not in many people's minds too often, and it's a true classic. If you haven't seen it, then rent it or buy it on DVD. Trust me, you won't be sorry. |

I've seen it a long time ago. That movie was originally released sometime in the 70's, right? I've seen it in the 80's when I was fairly young, so I don't remember it that well. I'll check to see if my local library carries it so I can watch it again sometime.

Sorry, I'm not thrilled with it. When I was in high school, our school did it and it was ok. Then a couple years later we competed with another school who did that and couldn't stand it. The school that did it was called "Newark" and we made cracks about it singing:
"Ease on back, Ease on back, to Newark..." See it once, but after that, I think it's too much. That's just my opinion. **moo, the theatrical** |

Hey there,
I'm new here and I can't believe I found this thread. I used to rent the Wiz all the time when I was little, and I have the soundtrack on record also. I love that movie! Jem |

So do I! I have it on CD. I used to have the cassette tape of the the original Broadway cast version of "the Wiz", but it got lost somewhere. I;m glad I found the movie soundtrack and It's a valued part of my CD collection.
