Get it? Heck, yeah! I bought it the day it came out, last Tuesday. Starting at 3:00am, I camped out in a tent on the pavement at the local Best Buy, waiting for their doors to open. Well, not really. That's a lie. But, I was on the pavement in spirit. I didn't actually get to the store until noon. And then, it turned out that my Best Buy didn't have a copy. Rather irritating, as that's about the third time they haven't had a new tv-dvd release I was anticipating. So, I drove the extra twenty miles over to the Barnes and Noble, and picked up a copy there. They only had one copy, which I immediately grabbed. Maybe it was a good thing they didn't have multiple copies, as I might have wound up buying two or three sets. My affection for the series can sometimes lead to irrationality, I'm afraid.

Here's something interesting. In the episodes where Troy Donahue and Dick Gautier are guest stars, the picture on Troy Donahue's desk and the picture on the wall in Dick Gautier's apartment is the same picture of the same woman! I guess maybe they had a low budget for props in the 3rd season.

Ha! Fun to catch little things like that. Dvd's have made it easier to do so. And I don't doubt that TPDS really didn't have the budgetary resources and advantages that big operations like Columbia/Screen Gems and Universal/Revue and such had at their disposal. But luckily, TPDS seemed to have some above-par talent in the photography department, which gave the series a classy visual sheen, overcoming potential production limitations. Even in this final 3rd-season (which DOES suffer from certain problems), it still sports a nice visual flare, the standout perhaps being the episode "I'll Be Suing You," with some really nice lighting. Fun episode, by the way. The scene with Patty and Ned Glass was priceless. A few times the humor in the 3rd-season episodes got too broad/clunky, but that scene was pitch-perfect.

I don't have the Shout Factory sets, my Patty Duke shows are recordings from TV, the shows are uncut though. I haven't noticed any audio problems, maybe in a couple shows the audio is a little soft but not too bad.

I re watched that particular episode again and it was ok not perfect. The audio intro when Martin first met Patty's "older" date and the theme song sounded muffled and tinny but halfway through the episode the sound became a little better. Maybe a faulty DVD perhaps.

I'll just turn the volume up for that episode then. I'm already done watching this season and all the episodes besides that one were good.
