Thumbs down Sorry, But Georgette Franklin Got On My Nerves!

No offense is meant on the actress Georgia Engel, but I really never liked her character on TMTMS. While she probably single handedly saved Ted Knight from leaving the sitcom, I just never got use to her character. She was just too mousy and weak for me. Agree? Disagree?

Well, Georgette did stand up to Ted every time he went over the line. I personally found her a very likeable character. It's kind of unusual that they paired her with Ted Knight - seeing as they were nearly 25 years apart in age in real life. But, by golly, it worked!!

Cool

I was never annoyed by Georgette. In fact I liked her. And she made Ted a better person so she served a definite purpose on the show.

Hmmm, interesting. I didn't realize they were so far apart in age. Maybe it was the voice that grated on me? I have no idea, I cannot pin point it.

Well, I can vouch that the baby voice is real. I've heard Georgia Engel in several interviews over the years and that is indeed her real voice.

Here are hers and Ted's birthdates:

Ted Knight: December 7, 1923 - August 26, 1986
Georgia Engel: July 28, 1948 -

Yeah, the voice is real. She sounds the same as Pat MacDougal on Everybody Loves Raymond LOL. But Monika's also right about Georgette standing up for herself sometimes. Remember when she called Ted's bluff about marrying her then and there?

Sounds just like Shirley Burleigh from Coach too! There's no doubt that's Georgia Engels real voice.

Yes, and also earlier she got fed up being treated like Ted's slave (doing his laundry, running his errands, etc.). She let him have it - but it also turned out to be the same scene where Ted and Georgette ended up exchanging their first "I love yous".

What's the name of that episode, Kristen? Which season did it air. I want to say S3, but I'm not positive.

It is S3, "The Georgette Story." That "I love you" scene is definitely sweet. And I think it was probably a good thing she put her foot down about getting married, b/c you knew Ted was in no hurry! LOL They could've had the world's longest engagement.

I love Georgette, she cracks me up with that voice and her sweetness.

I never fail to laugh when she tells Phyllis she forgives her but she better get her tail out of here before Rhoda arrives!(The Wedding episode)

I didn't dislike the character but that voice was one of the 3 most annoying I've ever heard on a sitcom. The others being Fran Fine of The Nanny and Lou Ann Poovie from Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.

Georgette standing up to Ted reminds me of Edith getting fed up with Archie, and told him to "stifle himself" on All in the Family. The audience went nuts!

That was great. They had to have Georgette burn Phyllis, because Phyllis was down right nasty and rude to Georgette, earlier in the episode when everyone was at dinner. Georgette was telling about her road trip to New York, and Phyllis interrupted her and told her that it was not an interesting story! She had it coming!!!
