Yeah, I heard that, too. The reason I heard why it never happened was that the writers and other behind the scenes staff of BM were so burned out from doing both BM and Fish. Another proposed spinoff had Harris and Dietrich sharing an apartment, ala the Odd Couple. If you recall, Harris and Dietrich really were roommates for awhile.

I've heard that the episode Wojo's Girl Part 2 was the pilot for the potential spin off, which would focus each week on one of the cops off duty lifes. Imo it might have gone better if they had started with the Odd Couple idea first, since Wojo's Girl Part 2 is my least favorite episode by a mile. I would have much rather seen Harris and Dietrich have to share an apartment than watch Wojo and his girlfriend, and not just because I adore Dietrich.

Cool

^ So would I - because Harris and Dietrich's interactions were so funny. I would've loved to see them at home as roommates. I think that would've been a hilarious show. Too bad it never came to fruition.

Yeah there was supposed to be a spin-off called "Off Duty" or something similar which would focus on a different detective's personal life each week with guest appearances from the others. The four would have been Barney and Elizabeth, Fish and Bernice, Harris and Detrich (who were roommates ala Odd Couple style) and Wojo and his girlfriend from Wojo's Girl. They decided it was a bit too creatively ambitious and canned the whole thing.

That's too bad, because I think that would've been an interesting show to do!!

I would have loved to see it. The more screen time for the gang the better! :-) I wonder if they'll ever do a movie version. There was one planned a few years ago with Tom Selleck playing Barney but it never got anywhere. Probably for the best as the move remakes of classic TV shows usually suck! LOL!

Amen!!! Though I have to admit that I think Tom would make a good Barney. Like Hal, he's got the trademark mustache.
