I am just curious was it a recurring role, was it suppose to be semi permanent? I read an article from 1980 where Beth Howland (Vera from 'Alice') said her role on Mary's show is what got her the gig on 'Alice'

Beth Howland was in 2 TMTMS episodes:

"Have I Found a Guy for You" (from Season 3, and Bert Convy played her husband!)

"Mary Richards Falls in Love" (from Season 6, with special guest appearances by Valerie Harper and David Groh as Rhoda and Joe Gerard!)

She played different characters in the episodes.

It's pretty amazing how many guest stars from TMTMS went on to do other things. Like Henry Winkler and Helen Hunt, for example. I know there are more, but those two jump to mind right away.
