TV TVSquad Talks To Romy Rosemont on "Glee"

"Glee" Mom Romy Rosemont Is a 'Musical Dork'
by Denise Warner
posted Aug 28th 2010

On "Glee", Romy Rosemont plays Carole Hudson -- Finn's widowed mother and girlfriend to Kurt's well-meaning dad, Burt.

Rosemont spoke to PopEater and admitted to absolutely loving the musical aspect of the show. "I'm such a musical dork," she tells us. "I've got every CD."

Unfortunately for fans, the actress couldn't divulge much about what will happen on the upcoming season, though she hints at more screen time for Carole and Burt, played by Mike O'Malley.

"I think you're going to see more of us," she teases.

And since "Glee" revolves around singing, will we ever hear Rosemont's vocal talents?

"We never know what's in the minds of the writers."

You're on this little show people are kind of into, called "Glee".

I know it; it's like the little engine that could, isn't it? [Laughs]

What is it like going through this phenomenon?

It's fantastic being on this kind of show because I think what it represents is – a) it's so much fun, and b) I get to still be a little bit on the outside of it, since I'm not part of the central core ...

It's an incredible thing to be a part of. In a way, it's like being part of television history. This is so much bigger than just having a television show because it has such an incredible message.

People make fun of me because I'm such a musical dork, but I've got every CD ... I was lip-synching to Idina Menzel and Lea Michele singing 'I Dreamed a Dream,' and I thought, "I sound just like these women." [Laughs]

It was amazing. I'm really grateful to be a part of it.

Will we ever hear you sing?

You know, I don't know anything yet, but then we never know what's in the minds of the writers.

Also, what I find amazing about "Glee", it's only written by three people – the creators. That's Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. And they are the masterminds behind it all. They might have an idea of something that's coming up in months ahead, and we have no idea.

You just buckle your seat belt and go for the ride and know that no matter what, they're not going to sell you down the river, and it's going to be fun and it's going to be an amazing edition to the show.

If you did get to sing, do you have a song in mind?

I think it would be hilarious to do something of Captain and Tennille, like go back to the 70s, if it was Mike O'Malley and I doing 'Muskrat Love' ...

I also find that for this character, it would be so not like her to do something from Pink. All of the sudden, she's doing 'Get The Party Started.'

I want to ask you about Carol and Burt, Mike O'Malley's character.
Things were a little dicey at the end of the season. Are they still together?

I don't know. I think you're going to see more of us. I don't know what capacity. They keep up on our toes as much as they do the audience. That's something the writers haven't shared with us. I'll find out when I read the script.

I think that our relationship and also the chemistry between the two of us was so well-received and so great. It's so much fun to work with Mike O'Malley.

First of all, he's one of the nicest guys you're ever going to meet, then couple that with how talented he is. What I can only hope for is that he and I get to share some really good scenes. The scenes were really with our kids, and I understand that's what it's about, but I think it would be very interesting to see a conversation and intimate scenes between the two adults.

I think that's why "Glee" has been so good, it talks to such a huge majority of the population. Having a gay son, the way he does, and how it's been treated has been so beautiful, and so it would be interesting to get the mom's perspective on that situation.

So you'll see more of us, but I don't know exactly in what capacity.

I'm rooting for you two!

Thanks. I am, too, on a selfish basis, from an actor's point of view, and also it's just so good.
