According to Tim Brooks & Earle Marsh's "Complete Directory to Primetime Network and Cable TV Shows," here's where the Top 10 shows for 1996-97 ended up finishing the following year (1997-98):

1. ER - still going strong at #2
2. Seinfeld - moved up to #1 (talk about going out on top!)
3. Suddenly Susan - Would you believe it was not even in the Top 30 that year? I didn't think Season 2 (when Maddy started) was that bad, though.
4. Friends - finished at #4 again
5. The Naked Truth - Like SS, this mid-90s sitcom for Tea Leoni wasn't in the Top 30 that year.
6. Fired Up - Again, this mid-90s sitcom for Sharon Lawrence was nowhere near the Top 30 that year.
7. ABC Monday Night Football - moved up to #5
8. The Single Guy - the highest rated show of 1996-97 that did not get a renewal for 1997-98.
9. Home Improvement - tied at #10 with Frasier
10. Touched by an Angel - moved up to #6
