Exclamation Exactly What Was The Point of Killing Off The Nick Character on One Day At A Time?

He was the business partner of Ann Romano who had a teenage son Alex. They made Ann & Nick into a romantic couple and then decided to kill of his character in a car crash. WHY?!? Was there a specific reason? It just didn't make sense to me...

I think they did it because they wanted a kid on the show to help improve ratings, and also because they wanted Ann to remain single(at least for the time being).

They already had 2 kids on the show, what was the point of a third? and of all people they had to hire Glen Scarpelli. When Nick was killed off they should've gotten rid of Alex also, maybe not in the same manner but the show became unwatchable for me when he joined the cast.

Perhaps we were watching a different show as I found One Day At a Time to be largely unwatchable after the third season. Schneider's constant (and rather creepy) showing up at the apartment all of the time had worn thin by that point.

Together w/ Bonnie Franklin's limited range of expression, Mackenzie Phillips histrionic acting and Valerie Bertinelli's complete lack of acting ability this show was over by the end of the third season. They just stuck around for six more because.....

I was never that big of a fan of the show anyway but did watch it on occasion and Valerie wasn't that bad as an actress but Glen was just horrible.

If you think he was a bad actor, did you ever hear his singing?

Oh God! Please stop it!!

It wasn't bad enough that he was an annoying, talentless actor, but he was an even more annoying and talentless "singer."

Glenn Scarpelli makes Scott Baio sound like Pavarotti.

I didn't mind him. I guess I'm the only one. I even watched a few episodes of Jennifer Slept Here which he starred in.

ODAAT was hitting its prime years in it's 3rd season. I don't know what show you were watching.

I did not see any chemistry between Ann and Nick. It was something creepy about Nick I did not like. It would had been good if Shelley Fabares role would had expanded. Bonnie Franklin and Shelley were great together and their rivialry made good comedy.

Oh that's really not bad at all. Don't get me wrong, it ain't that great...but he's on key all the way through and the material doesn't exactly require a strong voice. Scott Baio, on the other hand, couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.
