Question Do You Think Mary Tyler Moore Should Try Doing A Sitcom Again?

Or would you rather she stayed sorta semi-retired and just stick with the occasional guest starring role? Anybody out there feel with the right project MTM can regain her sitcom crown???

No, I don't think she'd do a sitcom at this point if asked. She's having a tough time with her diabetes these days, particularly with regard to her vision, and doing a weekly series would likely be too difficult.

If she wants to sure..but what I'd REALLY like to see her do is a movie - she was kick-a** great in Ordinary People.

The only show that she was in after TMTMS went off the air that was any good was the 1985 CBS sitcom Mary. It had a good cast and premise. CBS didn't give it much time to find itself. But she was in 2 hit sitcoms and that's quite a legacy. I think she's done with tv except maybe some guest appearances. Hey, Maybe she could guest star on Hot in Cleveland with Betty White. lol

And in case anyone is interested in seeing that 1985 sitcom, Mary, here's an episode:

I support her in anything she does.
But I agree she should take care of her health first and foremost, and at this point the lead role in a series might be too strenuous.

I also was going to mention that's she's already been in what I consider to be the two best sitcoms ever, so what are the odds that this one would be the third one that would be the charm?

Movie roles, plays, sitcom guest shots are probably the way to go.

As great as it would be to see Mary on TV on a regular basis again, her health should come before her career. Plus, it seems like she does have her priorites straight. God bless her.

Diabetes Type 1 can be ghastly but Mary has been dealing with it for so many decades I didn't realize it was getting the better of her. I am so sorry to hear this. And God Bless Her for all her wonderful accomplishments - the best ones being her ambassadorial work for diabetes and all the support she gives to others with the condition. She is tops in my book. Hope she gets the upper hand again against this, at times, dreadful disease.

A regular role would probably be more than she'd want to take on. But I'd love to see her do some guest shots. I heard Betty White is going to be on Community. Wouldn't Mary be great as a field-marshal of an English teacher?

Nope, as much as I love Mary I don't want to see her reduced to a dirty talking grandma or doddering old widow, which is just what the boneheads at the networks would do to her now.

I think she should be like Johnny Carson and just kind of let the memories of all her great work speak for her. Obviously if she found a project she'd like to be a part of, I'd be glad to see her but I doubt she'll find something worthy of her talent at this point.

About three minutes into this clip, Mary discusses how the disease is impacting her. And incidentally, at the beginning of the interview, Bonnie had to help her onto the stage.

Very well-said, Retro4Life, about what the networks would probably want Mary to play vs. what would be worthy of her talent.

And thanks for posting that Bonnie Hunt clip, Little Ricky. That was taped around the time I saw her at a book signing, and at the signing she also looked lovely, as usual, but she talked about vision issues then, too.

Certainly may God continue to bless her health-wise, and career wise!
