Eek Stuffed Pony Outside Florida School

I'm not sure I understand or perhaps there's more to this story. It's strange that a stuffed animal could cause a school to go into lockdown mode.

Stuffed Pony Locks Down School
Orlando Elementary School Affected By Stuffed Animal

Posted: Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Updated: 1:03 pm CDT September 7, 2010

Orlando, Fla. -- A Central Florida elementary school was locked on Tuesday because of a stuffed animal, WKMG-TV reported. Waterbridge Elementary School in Orange County was locked down for more than an hour while authorities investigated a suspicious device, which appeared to be a pony-shaped stuffed animal.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the school was under a modified code yellow lockdown beginning at 11 a.m., meaning people at the school could only have limited movement inside buildings and outside activity was not permitted. The device was determined to be non-threatening after the Sheriff's Office conducted a thorough investigation, The Sheriff's Office said the suspicious device was located off school property near Whisper Glen Court.

I feel sorry for you poor, SANE Floridians. Ever since the 2000 election, every stupid thing that happens in your state shows up in the national news. At least you don't live in Pensacola, where my best friend from high school now lives. That has to be THE capital of the stupidest criminals on earth!!

Stuffed Pony Blown Up Outside School
Toy Thought To Be 'Suspicious Device;' Nothing Found Inside

Posted: Saturday, September 11, 2010
Updated: 8:16 am CDT September 11, 2010

Orlando, Fla. -- Authorities blew up a stuffed pony -- determined to be a "suspicious device" -- after it was found outside a central Florida school. The Orange County Sheriff's Office reported that the toy was found near the Waterbridge Elementary School Tuesday morning.

No one was allowed in or out of the building while bomb disposal experts destroyed the stuffed animal. It was ultimately deemed "non-threatening." No injuries were reported.
