Star Wars Getting Blu-ray Treatment
16 August 2010 George Lucas says he has been waiting for the Blu-ray Disc format to prove itself before releasing his Star Wars films in the high-definition standard. In an interview with the New York Times, Lucas said, “We’ve been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it.” Lucas said that all six of the sci-fi movies will be released on Blu-ray Disc in the fall of 2011 and will include documentary features and never-before-seen footage. He noted that when he released the original trilogy on VHS in the early 1980s, when home video was just becoming popular, “we sold 300,000 copies … so we learned from that experience that if you’re too early in the marketplace, there’s just not enough demand for it.” The Times noted that there are currently 19.4 million Blu-ray players in the U.S. -IMDB News |

Star Wars Tweaked Darth Vader Scene Sparks Outcry
9/1/2011 by THR staff George Lucas continues to make tweaks to Star Wars, and fans continue to be upset about it. Such was the case Thursday when it was revealed that Lucas has added audio to Darth Vader in a scene in Return of the Jedi where he commits his final redemptive act by throwing the evil Emperor Palpatine down a shaft. In the original version, Vader was silent, but now he cries out "No!" reflecting the end of Revenge of the Sith. Other changes include: swapping out the puppet Yoda in The Phantom Menace for a CGI-created creature having the Ewoks blink in Return of the Jedi adding a shriek to Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope when he rescues Luke from the Tusken Raider attack. After Lucas confirmed the changes, fans took to Twitter to express their frustration, mostly related to the Darth Vadar alteration: "I wonder if the 'Lost' finale will be better appreciated if we have Vincent [the dog] shout "NOOOOOOOOO!" over the final shot." -- "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof "If George Lucas continues to change 'Star Wars' at this rate in the year 2028 it will just become 'Spaceballs'." -- Actor-Comedian Paul Scheer "All right, with MORE research, I come to the conclusion the changes in the 'STAR WARS' blu-ray are absurd..." -- Masoud "STOP TINKERING WITH THE ORIGINAL 'STAR WARS' MOVIES!!!!!!" -- Dave Lozo "Hi my name is Sarah Strickler, & I'm one of those nerds who is angered by the changes being made in the 'Star Wars' blu-ray pack... nerdrage" -- Strickler "Calm down, nerds. If we can have 10 versions of the Bible we can have a couple different versions of 'Star Wars'." -- Jesus_M_Christ http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...h-vader-230427 |

You know, I'd be all for George making all the changes he wants, as long as he makes the originals available alongside the newly-altered versions (like Spielberg did with E.T.).

Should I write about this for my article on Movies? (That's my English Project, to write about film remakes).

I think George stopped caring about fans a long time ago. Jar Jar Binks is proof of that.

Star Wars Blu-ray Release Breaks Global Sales Record
By Christopher Rosen Posted Sep 23rd 2011 Star Wars fans may have been shouting "NOOO!" all over the Internet, but their wallets were quietly screaming "YESSSS!" Since release last Friday, Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray has sold 1 million copies -- good for a record-breaking global total of $84 million. In North America alone, Lucasfilm sold $38 million worth of discs, and the set broke both the pre-order and catalog sales records for Blu-ray releases. LucasFilms released a statement to the press: "The 13-month campaign to launch the SAGA Blu-ray and engage consumers around the globe began in August 2010. From Darth Vader at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a first look at San Diego Comic Con, a first-of-its-kind partnership with eBay, to creating the world's largest lightsaber in the UK, the power of the Force continued to resonate around the world as fans came out in droves to have fun with that galaxy far, far away.' Once again our fan's enthusiasm to celebrate Stars Wars continues to amaze us. Our goal was to deliver a premium product that they could enjoy with their family and friends and we are thrilled that they are enjoying it as much as we hoped they would." Episodes I-III and IV-VI are also available as distinct Blu-ray Trilogy collections. http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/09/23...-sales-record/ |
