When this show ended back in 1989, was it the end of the family sitcom? A lot of shows came and went since Family Ties ended, but did they have the heart or warmth that FT did?

The end of the eighties certainly signaled a change in the direction of sitcoms. Gone were shows about families and in their place were shows about single people. Leading the way of course were shows like Seinfeld and Friends. There have been family sitcoms more recently but they lack the warmth and values of the shows in the 80's.
