Default Puplic Domain Episodes.

Hey, does anybody know how episodes of "The Lucy Show" where in pupalic domain? I've got a few of those pupalic domain episodes as well as the official first and second seasons and got to wondering how many episodes were in pupalic domain? I two episodes from the first season were in pupalic domain "Lucy and Viv put in a shower and Lucy's Barbershop Quartet" and most the later California episodes. Were there any episodes from the second and third seasons or forth season in pupalic domain? Does anyone know where I can find a list of the pupalic domain episodes? Please let me know. Thanks.

Does anybody know how certain episodes of certain shows become "public domain"? Why just these episodes, and just 30?

The story I've heard is that an administrative employee at Paramount in the 1970s neglected to submit proper paperwork to protect the copyrights on these episodes. This big mistake not only affected these TLS episodes, but also episodes from other series, including The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Andy Griffith Show. Consequently, there have been DVD releases of public domain episodes of those shows as well.

I hope people realize that most of the P. D. episodes are from seasons 5 & 6, so that there will be strong potential sales for season 4 on dvd as well as season 3. Even though Viv is gone, there are some classic episodes, starting with Lucy at Marineland!

Season 4 still has some good ones because we are still not quite bounded to the "Lucy Meets the Big Guest Star of The Week" format, that 5 and 6 would end up becoming. I actually enjoy the two Joan Blondell episodes as well as the IronMan Carmichael trio of episodes. Plus we have William Frawley's last television appearance in one of the Countess' episodes (the one with the race horse).

I got a set of the Lucy Show public domain episodes for Christmas. Watched a couple of the episodes. They have really poor quality, are missing the opening and closing credits, and I imagine may be edited. It even have different theme music! I sure hope seasons 5 & 6, indeed get released so they can be viewed properly!!

I agree! I own several public domain releases and the quality of those releases doesn't hold a candle to the official releases. I certainly hope we get official releases of seasons 5 and 6 so those episodes can viewed the way they were meant to be!

Once I get all the official releases, I'm getting rid of the public domain DVDs.

Yeah, we can already see the difference with season #1 episodes, Lucy & Viv Put in a Shower and Lucy's Barbershop Quartet!

The Beverly Hillbillies, also. I wonder if that employee got fired?

^Perhaps it was Mrs. Carmichael's fault after all?
