Default The Lucy Show: Season 3 (rumor of a Dec. 2010 release)

Over at the Lucy Lounge, it was posted that one of the guys who worked on the first 2 sets commented that Season 3 was being prepped for December. I know all of the Lucy fans would want to know this...even if it is not cemented yet. It gives us hope to see more Lucy on dvd before the year is over. What a way to end 2010!

That would be a great surprise since most fans were expecting to wait for another year! And rumor has it Here's Lucy Season 4 will happen in November.

Personally, I wish Season 3 of The Lucy Show would not be released that soon. Here's why: CBS has been pretty clear that they will only continue releasing additional seasons of this series if sales remain high. The first two seasons have been released almost in direct competition with the releases of Here's Lucy. That hasn't been a problem so far because I think, given the choice, the vast majority of consumers would pick the Lucy/Viv seasons of TLS over any season of Here's Lucy. So I don't think the releases of TLS (so far) have been impacted at all by concurrent releases of Here's Lucy. But I think that situation would change following the third season of TLS. I anticipate there will be a drop off in sales of TLS after the third season to start with; it will only be the die-hard Lucy fans who continue buying the later seasons. And not all of those die-hard fans will be in a financial position to buy Here's Lucy and The Lucy Show DVDs at the same time. So they'll be forced to pick between the two, and some may go for Here's Lucy instead of The Lucy Show, at least initially when CBS is looking at its sales figures. However, if Season 4 and beyond of TLS are not available until after all the Here's Lucy DVDs are out, then that won't be an issue. Even better, if TLS is the only game in town (i.e., there are no more "new" Lucy's left for DVD release except TLS), then demand will be even higher.

At the rate Here's Lucy has been getting released, I anticipate the final (sixth) season of Here's Lucy will come out around November 2011 (Season 4 this November, followed by Season 5 around June or July 2011, and Season 6 in November). If the TLS releases continue at the same once-a-year pace, then the third season would not be out until July of 2011, with the last Here's Lucy following four months later. Then by July 2012, it will have been a full eight months since the last Lucy release. And with no other Lucy releases left at that point, other than two more seasons of TLS, those seasons will be much more attractive to fans. I think that's the best scenario for ensuring all the remaining seasons come out. So no TLS Season 3 in December. It could wind up being the last.

I really hope all seasons of THE LUCY SHOW are released. I agree, I do not like that now they are releasing THE LUCY SHOW and HERE'S LUCY at the same time. I think it affects the sales for both shows negatively. Kinda stupid. HERE'S LUCY, honestly, is an inferior show and I don't care if further seasons are released anyway.

I'm with you. I wasn't planning on buying TLS on DVD at all, but I bought Season 1 with some rewards points that I had and enjoyed it so much that I had to buy Season 2. I'll stick with Season 3 as well, but I have no interest in the later eps with the kaleidoscope opening or Lucy forgetting about her kids and running into celebrities in LA almost every week. Besides which, I already got a fair sampling of those with a $1 public domain DVD, and to me those shows aren't worth any more than that.

I at least want season 4 released. None of season 4 is in public domain. Theres only 30 episodes in P. D., 2 of them from season 1, so that means it consists of about half of season 5 and half of season 6.

Actually, the public domain episodes (besides the two from the first season) consist of all the fifth season episodes but one ("Main Street Part 2" being the exception), and only seven episodes from the sixth season. This means there are 17 episodes from the sixth season that are NOT in the public domain. Here's a link to a list of the the public domain episodes of TLS:

I didn't think that was right, but sure enough it is. There was only 22 eps. in season 5, 21 are pd, and 7 of the first 8 from season 6. I never noticed this.

Actually, I want season 5 released because I'm hoping the special, Lucy in London is an extra. I do wonder if these seasons are going to get released!!

Default All Six Seasons of "The Lucy Show" will be released

Since season 3 is rumored to be released during Christmas, it will sell extremely well. So, if season 3 sells well, there will definitely be a season 4 release, probably sometime in summer 2011. I don't think the public domain episodes will have any effect on seasons 5 or 6, especially when there are so many special extras they can add to the final two seasons. The "Lucy In London" special would be a wonderful extra for season five since it ties right in with the Lucy Goes to London episode. They can have clips of Lucy winning her Emmy in 1967 and 1968 for Best Actress In A Comedy Series. I don't think there will be a problem with releasing the last two seasons. The California Years of "The Lucy Show" are just as good as the first three seasons with Vivian Vance. If you do research on "The Lucy Show," seasons four thru six were the highest ranked seasons and wond the most Emmy nominations. True, there were a couple of clinkers like 'Lucy and the Monkey' and 'Lucy, the Superwoman,' but there were also clinkers in seasons one thru three like 'Lucy and the Barbershop Quartet,' and 'Lucy plays Cleopatra.' I also think that the release of "Here's Lucy" has had no affect of the sales of "The Lucy Show." MPI has done a fantastic job on the first three seaons and the sales have been fine. The only MPI release I am not looking forward to is "Lucy Moves to NBC." It was truly a horrible and unnecessary special. So, don't worry because we will have all six seasons of "The Lucy Show" released by the end of 2012.
