Police did not have to look far to catch a suspected drunk driver. That's because they say he drove himself to jail.

"I want to turn myself in," James Hubbell, 64, tells a Lorain County sheriff's department dispatcher in a call around 4:45 a.m. Sunday.

"I'm at the corner of West Ridge and 113 right now," he goes on to say.

According to a police report, he tells a dispatcher that he's driving drunk and headed to the sheriff's office because he needs a place to stay for the night.

"I'm drunk and I'm drinking, so (bleep) pick me up and take me to jail. "Where you at?" asks the dispatcher. "I'm coming out to you right now. I'm on Murray Ridge," responds Hubbell. "Why don't you just pull over to the side of the road and I'll have somebody come meet you." suggests the dispatcher. "I'm coming to your place," he responds.

Police say a sheriff's deputy walked out to the parking lot and observed Hubbell's Gold Ford Ranger driving through the grass of the health department next door.

The deputy says Hubell smelled of alcohol and had "heavy slurred speech." He says Hubbell was unsteady on his feet and when asked to perform a field sobriety test he said "no am drunk, arrest me, am not doing anymore tests."

Police honored Hubbell's request...and arrested him.

Investigators say Hubbell refused to take a breath test.
