Yup - but it sure did make the show more realistic. I mean, Abby wasn't that much older than Mary and Joannie, so there was plenty of conflict to draw from.

Actually, actress Laurie Walters (Joanie) was the oldest of all the actors playing the Bradford siblings, and 6 monthes older than Betty Buckley. Her character was a good 10 years younger. Born in 1947, older siblings David (Grant Goodeve) and Mary (Lani O'Grady) were born in 1952. Actress Diana Hyland (Joan) who played the mother was born in 1936, would have been 11, when Laurie was born.

I know, but I was talking about the characters in this case. Abby still wouldn't have been much older than her oldest stepkids.

Back to the EIE vintage promo, looks like an interesting episode. I sure wish they could get Eight is Enough on dvd. (Apparently, Warner continues to work on it).

I remember one episode where Abby and Joanie were having it out, and Joanie said to Abby, 'You've never liked me because I have the same name as my mother and I look and act just like her.' And in another episode Abby was working on some kind of project with Susan's boyfriend, and Susan thought that Abby was trying to steal him from her.Good times.

This does need to come out on DVD. 'The Waltons' and 'Little House' have been out forever. Why not 'Eight is Enough'?

Your guess is as good as mine - I'd so love to see EIE on DVD, as well as the remaining seasons of Family.

It seems as though there are ongoing negotiations with the family of the late Thomas Braden, who wrote the book on which the series was based on. Warner continues to have Eight is Enough classified under active consideration for dvd release. So I guess there is hope.(???) I think this show is among my top 10 wanted un-released tv shows

I actually remember that episode. EIE was a really good (and underrated) show.

That announcer just happens to be the one and only Ernie Anderson, who got his start as "Ghoulardi" in Cleveland and died in 1997. He often collaborated with Tim Conway before they both headed West. Ernie Anderson's son Paul made it big as a director (Boogie Nights, Magnolia).

As for the EIE episode, what was Mary running for? I thought she was going to be a doctor.

You know, I had heard that about Anderson but had forgotten. Thanks for reminding me.

As to the episode, I want to say she ran for city council. And lost, I think.
