Betty White's new show Hot in Cleveland may be all about vanity and looking good, but the 88-year-old isn't about to jump on the beauty bandwagon.

Unlike fellow Hollywood stars Raquel Welch and Joan Rivers, the former Golden Girl said she had never gone under the knife and couldn't be bothered with plastic surgery.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it, I say," the actor laughed.

"It's something I learned at my mother's knee, so the girls in make-up just have to put up with the wrinkles and the puffy eyes."

White said she relied on acting and performing to keep her young.

This year alone, the Emmy Award-winner became the oldest person to guest-host US variety show Saturday Night Live, recorded one of the most popular Super Bowl ads of 2010 and filmed the movie You Again with Jamie Lee Curtis and Sigourney Weaver, due for release in September. "Everyone says, 'Oh, it's so nice to see you back', but I never really went away," she said. "I've been working 63 years in this business."

And the actor says she's not about to stop.

"I don't know what else I'd do (if I wasn't acting)," she said. "I'll keep doing this until I'm in my grave."

White currently films Hot in Cleveland at least three days a week and spends the rest of her time shooting guest spots on other comedies, as well as working on a re-release of one of her books.

"I'm only rostered on for three days (on Hot In Cleveland), but sometimes I come in for an extra day because it's so much fun," she says.

"The girls are a delight to work with on both sides of the camera and I love doing a show in front of a live audience – it's just a totally pleasant experience." However, the star was not actually supposed to appear in the show at all. She agreed to do the pilot because of her other acting commitments but the team twisted her arm.

"They were so nice I was ashamed to turn them down," she said.

Sounds like this really cool ol gal really knows whats what. She may have a few sags and bags but she looks real and LOOKS GOOD for 88. She is so with it in so many ways ...God Bless Her...I just love her to pieces...she rocks.

I agree. She knows what's important. I think it's impressive how well she is doing at 88.

At 88 years of age, I don't know why someone would even consider it. Betty has the right attitude. She's gotten by this long without it.

I think in most cases, it has the opposite effect: It just reminds me that someone who's gotten older is trying to hold on to their youth or appear young.

i don't know about this - last time she was on Craig Ferguson she said that she was going to get her boobs done.

...she mentioned the possible "boob job" to Craig as a joke.

Besides, if she ever did go under the knife, all the doctor would have to do is make one incision....and Betty would either deflate like a balloon or crumble to the floor in a pile of dust! {"There's not enough of her left to fulfill her commitment to 'HOT IN CLEVELAND'!"/"Well, do the best you can!!!'}.
