The Saw horror movie series is truly desperate to hold on to the title of “Franchise That Is Harder To Kill Than A Terminator,” isn’t it? It seems that the seventh entry in the franchise, Saw 3D, may not be the last movie that concerns the wacky adventures of Jigsaw and his master plan – which, at this point, is so ludicrously complicated that it makes the schematics of the psychological heist in Inception or the plot of Lost seem like child’s play in comparison. Moviegoers have taken the “this will be the last one!” promises from the writers of Saw 3D and even Lionsgate executives with, well, a bucket of salt up to now. But money talks in Hollywood and the Saw movies are – if nothing else – excellent proof of that. Actress Betsy Russell (Jigaw’s ex-wife Jill in the films) is the first one to acknowledge that Saw 8 could happen. She even manages to appear genuinely enthused about the idea, as you’ll note in the quote below: “Before we thought it was ending [with Saw 3D], the writers came up with an unbelievable idea [for Saw 8]. It’s an amazing story that I would love to see… We want to end near the top, with our integrity in tact and not letting the characters die a slow death, so to speak. But I believe in my heart that someday, somehow, [Saw 8] will happen.” Russell apparently said all this while keeping a straight face – Daniel Day-Lewis, eat your heart out. Insert your 'Saw 8' joke of choice here. What might the plot of Saw 8 entail then? Could the latest Saw victims be trapped in a space shuttle that is orbiting the earth? Maybe a group of scientists will clone Jigsaw, but inadvertently give him bear traps for hands and thus set him off on a new quest for revenge. The possibilities are endless! The release date for Saw 3D was pushed back a week so that it would not compete with Paranormal Activity 2 on its opening weekend. Those that love gory horror violence, do us all a favor and pass on seeing it anyway, cool? Saw 3D arrives in regular and, yes, 3D theaters in the U.S. on October 29th, 2010. |

SAW Writer Patrick Melton Confirms SAW 3D Is "The Last Shebang!"
Friday, August 6, 2010 By: MrDisgusting Yesterday we told you about a recent interview with Betsy Russell, who plays Jigsaw's wife, Jill, in the SAW franchise. She told press that, even though Lionsgate and Twisted have touted SAW 3D as the final Jigsaw game, an eighth film had already been conceived. Co-writer Patrick Melton writes Bloody Disgusting with a little clarification: "To clarify, Betsy has the story half correct," he explains. "At one point, we had an idea for two more movies. But after VI opened, we decided to combine everything into one last film, which is 'SAW 3D'. This one is the last shebang!" There you have it, straight from the writer's mouth! SAW 3D opens on October 29. http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/21199 |

I gave up after the fourth movie. It's the same old plotline: starts off with someone getting tortured, then people find themselves in a house of horrors, where they too get tortured, until one person is left to fight for their life at the end and are brought to some realization by use of flashback, where the whole movie is recapped in fast scenes (which still doesn't give me any insight into what the hell went on). Don't get me wrong...I love gory movies. But this movie is just getting redundant!

However, I'm looking forward to this last one because Cary Elwes (Dr. Gordon) is coming back and that major loose end about his fate at the end of the original is finally going to be addressed. |

I'm not a SAW fan, but considering how much money the franchise has made they'd be idiots not to make sequels.
A few more films and they'll be caught up with the Friday The 13th franchise as far as the amount of films in the series. |

The first three Saw films were really good. The fourth wasn't so good but the fifth and sixth ones were better. However, I do think they producers should quit while they are ahead.

I agree with JamesG I'm looking forward to this one to see what happened to Dr. Gordon. As for the franchise, these movies never have huge budgets and with the last movie it didn't too well but it made back it's budget quickly.

SAW VI was important because it answered the question as to what Amanda's real realtionship to Jigsaw was. I also thought it was a pretty good movie over all.
