Roberto Alomar's wife files temporary injuction after dispute - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Had just an additional 1.3 percent of Hall of Fame voters checked Roberto Alomar's name last winter, we could be sitting here talking about his recent address to the crowd in Cooperstown.

Instead, the stellar second baseman is occupying the late summer headlines for a reason not worthy of celebration: His wife just filed a temporary injunction against him after the pair allegedly engaged in a domestic dispute at their home in Florida.

Now Alomar must stay 500 feet away from his wife and is prohibited from contacting her.

From the Associated Press:

Maria Del Pilar Alomar, 33, said in a complaint filed Monday that the couple got into an argument at their Hillsborough County home on Sunday. Deputies responded, and the wife told them that she had to push Alomar away when he got several inches from her. No arrests were made.

The complaint also described an incident in June, where Alomar, 42, reportedly yelled at his wife and pushed her. In April, he threatened her with a knife, according to the complaint.

Alomar's agent, John Boggs, said Wednesday that the allegations against his client were false and defamatory.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Aug. 13, so we're likely to get more answers if the injunction is not dropped before then and his wife decides to pursue things further.

But whether or not these allegations have any truth to them, I think we can all agree that the mere mention of being involved in domestic disputes doesn't help his Hall of Fame case any. While his numbers are clearly Hall-worthy, a lot of the blame for coming up short in his first year of eligibility can probably be blamed on his infamous run-in with John Hirschbeck.

And even though Hirschbeck forgave him for the spitting and wished him luck for his Hall induction, Alomar only got 73.7 percent of the vote, just below the required 75 percent. It'll be interesting to see if these recent allegations affect his totals when the ballots go out again this year.

As good a player as Robby was, he never had a fraction of the class that his big brother Sandy has (who is now back on the Tribe as 1B coach).

To be fair Robby was a very classy player on the field (at least in his days as a Blue Jay) but obviously it's a different story off the field!
