Bernsen, film crew in fight at local bar Punch is thrown, injuries slight, no charges filed By Phil Trexler Akron Beacon Journal staff writer NEW FRANKLIN, OH: Actor-director Corbin Bernsen was thrown to the ground and a 25 Hill movie producer was punched during a scuffle last week at a New Franklin bar. No charges were brought by either side. The movie's co-producer, James Greilick, 29, of Los Angeles, was treated for a black eye. Bernsen, 55, scraped his knee when he was thrown to the ground, according to a police report. Bernsen, who was in the area filming the movie based on the All-American Soap Box Derby, declined comment Wednesday. Greilick and Dennis Pirt, a 22-year-old Clinton man accused of punching the 25 Hill co-producer, did not return calls seeking comment. Mary Ethridge, a spokeswoman for the movie, said the July 27 dispute inside the Upper Deck on West Turkeyfoot Lake Road, occurred just before midnight, when Pirt allegedly made unwanted advances to a female production assistant who had accompanied Bernsen, Greilick and others after a day of filming. She said Greilick told Pirt to leave the woman alone and all was quiet for about 15 minutes until the Clinton man allegedly returned and punched Greilick as he sat at the bar. ''Jim just felt that this man wouldn't leave her alone,'' Ethridge said. ''[Greilick] asked the guy to back off and he thought that was the end of it.'' Greilick, who was knocked to the floor from the surprise punch, was treated at Barberton Citizens Hospital for an eye injury and released. Pirt, who was punched by an unknown assailant during the scuffle, also was treated, according to the report. New Franklin police reports show the altercation spilled outside and Bernsen was thrown to the ground. He admitted throwing gravel at Pirt's car. Greilick admitted jumping on the Clinton man's car in the parking lot. An officer's report said the three involved in the fight eventually ''asked that no further criminal action be taken. This incidnet [sic] is closed.'' |
